Epsilon, FUUUUU

To our valued customers,

Polo Ralph Lauren's former email service provider, Epsilon, recently informed us that an unauthorized third party gained access to an Epsilon email application and obtained names and email addresses of Polo Ralph Lauren customers. We have been informed by Epsilon that the company took immediate action to address the system vulnerability and is working with the U.S. Secret Service to investigate. We regret that you may have been affected by this.

blah blah blah
Sincerely,

Ralph Lauren Customer Assistance

"As a valued U.S. Bank customer, we want to make you aware of a situation that has occurred related to your email address.

We have been informed by Epsilon Interactive, a vendor based in Dallas, Texas, that files containing your email address were accessed by unauthorized entry into their computer system. Epsilon helps us send you emails about products and services that may be of interest to you.

blah blah"

I am sure some of you guys share similar emails?

I think I received it from a couple other companies...

Same problem for customers of Best Buy, Airmiles, etc. It's a long list of companies that they serve and all of the client info have been stolen.

I think my wife and I have recieved 4-5 of these emails a piece. And now there's an issue in the Texas comptrollers office because they had accidentally (lol) put a database of thousands of peoples' confidential information (ss#, dl#, etc.) on a public server for over a year.

the thing that amazes me is that the public response is 'its ok'. There has to be some level of recourse (lawsuit, etc) that can be done.

I figure if you have billions of email addresses in your database, you should have a damn near hackproof server setup....

Don't think so. They claimed that all that was stolen were names and email addresses. So you may receive a lot more spam from now on.
