Retrofitting LCI Climate controls to pre-LCI E93 M3

As per the title, I've fitted an LCI climate control panel (from a 2011 car) into my 2008 E93 M3.

All the controls are working ok with the exception of air conditioning.

If I refit my original panel, air conditioning works again.

So, it looks like the LCI climate control panel needs to be coded to my pre-LCI car.

I have all the BMW Tools (INPA, NCS, WinKFP, etc.) installed on my laptop, but have only ever changed parameters before.

I assume I need to code the IHKA module via WinKFP, but could really do with some pointers to make sure I do it right.

Many thanks in advance!

You will just need to default code it with NCS Expert. You don't need to change any parameters.

Open NCS expert and load up your expert profile,
Select F1/vin/zcs/fa
Select F3/zcs/fa f.ecu
Select E89 chassis
Select CAS. This will load up your cars VO.
Select F6/back
Select F4/process ecu
Select IHK in module list
Select F2/change job
Select SG_CODIEREN
Select execute job and wait until it says "coding ended"
That's it.

Thank you so much EvaBMW.

I’ll have a go at this tomorrow and report back. It would be great to get this working.

Exactly what Eva said. I retrofitted both LCI climate controls and head unit to my 06 and was fortunate to have not needed coding but I did it anyways.

One thing to consider is the 'All' button. If you default code it, and your car had a 'Rest' button before, the 'All' will work as 'Rest.' You can code it however you like though

Just to update, the instructions from Eva worked perfectly, and I now have aircon working on my LCI climate control panel in my pre-LCI car.

Thanks all

I've fitted lci climate panel comes from 2010 e90 into my 2006 e90 and coded it then. It perfectly works. However INPA started not to recognize lci climate panel. It wants to see previous one and displays error message when I try to read it. 😔 It says something like 'not found ihkaxxx... found inkaxxx2'
Is there a solution for this problem? (I have latest sp-datens and ediabas) Should I use ista to read its error memory and info?

I had a similar problem when I retrofitted auto-high beams - I used a module out of a very late production X6 (FLA2). My install of INPA was older than the module (circa 2014) - I needed to update my INPA datens accordingly.

What version of INPA are you using? You can also use ISTA+ to diagnose / read out faults.

Hey, apologies for the necro-reply, but I’m about to swap in an LCI control unit specifically to change that “Rest” button to “All.” After (while?) I default code it, is it obvious how to get the “All” button to work correctly?

Yes, that is exactly what happened with mine, aircon wouldn’t work.

Default coding the IHKA module using the commands above solved the issue.
