AE as DRL coding with BMWhat
Hey all!
I just wanted to share some knowledge I earned by playing with the BMWhat app in my car. (2010 model E90 with halogen headlights, European model) It is possible to code the AE to function as DRL with the headlightswitch on auto. However, they aren't brighter. But I think it can also be possible to code the brightness with the app. So, now when I am having the headlight switch on auto, only the AE light up. But as soon as I drive into a darker place, for example a garage, the lowbeams will light up too. ![]() Just waiting for my 40W led AE to arrive now ![]() //Sahi |

Hello again!
Glad you found my information useful! ![]() Nope, not possible to code the AE brighter yet. But very soon it seems! I sent a mail to iViNi-Apps (The ones who gave us BMWhat) and here is the answer I got: Hello, thanks for the nice feedback, always great to hear :-) -I've coded so the Corona rings are set as DRL. However, the brightness is still like when using them as parking lights. Is it possible to code them to be brighter? I saw it is possible on the 5-series cars. Not yet, but in a week or so ;-) -Is it possible to set DRL function so the front foglights wil lit up togheter with the corona rings? Also in planning, but might take a little bit longer. Best regards from Munich Today I also coded so the car remembers my setting on the auto start/stop function. Amazingly I can finally forget that button ![]() Regards Sahi |

Update: BMWhat app has been updated so it is now possible to increase the brightness of AE. I have not tried it yet tough. I will update again when I have done so.

Yes, I coded meanwhile my engine was running. In the app they recommend to only have the ignition on. But I am running 2 amplifiers for my soundsystem that sucks quite much power, so I kind of had to have the engine on.. :P

I am sorry, I forgot this thread xD
Anyway.. When coding the AE brightness you are changing the voltage beeing sent to them. I have tried to code from "medium" brightness to "very high" but I could not really see a difference. The weak point is probably the rings themselves I belive. However, the bulbs I bought are still very bright compared to OEM and I am extremly happy with them. Also I found I like to drive with the AE and foglights so, for me it wasn't that bad. To clarify, I am using a LCI car with Halogen headlights. It might be better results when done on xenon equiped cars. Any chance you could give the steps that you took to do this?
I have a ODBCII via bluetooth module and currently using the Torque app. If I was to purchase BMWhat would I be able to do the same?? My battery went flat the other day as I was an idiot and left my halo's on whilst at work. Would be great for them to be auto on! (i'm running 2006 e90 330xi) |

Wonder what the difference is between the US and Eu models? I am in the middle of doing my lci halogen conversion and plugged in one of the lights. It seems to keep the rings on as DRL when set up for US models also??

Wondering if when others coded the AE as DRL if it also turned on the rear outer light bars. It did on mine. I actually don't mind it as I think it is pretty cool, but I could not find a way to turn it off if I had the AE as DRL.

I have the full version and AE as Drl is already active that's how it comes sstock at least on the e92. So in auto the AE light up during the day, at night it all lights up, this stuff is pretty basic... I'm not sure what you are asking.
Any questions let me know, I've been using it and playing around with everything |
