Do you change Transmission Fluid on your E90

I have a 2008 328xi with 170,000 miles, it's starting to slip and shake a bit in lower gears. BMW says to never change the transmission fluid, but my local shop says I need it. Do you think a transmission oil change will help the slipping?

Not likely...and, as to the "lifetime" fluid, that's total BS. No fluid is good forever. What that basically means to BMW is that it's good for the 5 or so years that the car is covered under warranty, and then you trade it in for a new one, so it's good for the lifetime of original ownership.

at 170xxx miles, you better spend extra for the fluid to perform a drain and flush to get most of the old BLACK fluid out, don't forget the transfer case since yours is a xi

I did mine (RWD) at ~87k along with new filter pan, and the fluid was already dark as hell. I'm not trusting the LIFE TIME label.

From what I read, every ~40-45k for drain & fill, and filter pan every other drain & fill.

By flush, I mean, let the transmission run for awhile then drain and fill again. Since at 170XXX miles, I'm sure it gets super nasty...

I just did mine last weekend. Bought the transmission kit plus the sleeve/adapter at FCPEuro. I did a drain and fill on my E90 330i with 170xxx miles

Just be prepared as it will be super messy once you drain and dropped the pan/mechatronic body.

I just got it done at my local shop that specializes in BMW's, they also put in this special lubricant. Cost was 700 freaking Dollars. Insane, I thought it would be around 150-200. Wish I would of just done it myself, but i will tell you it's driving like the day I bought it back in 08
