Tried to convert E90 LCI Xenon to AHL - Now ???
Hi and hallo to everyone!
I searched for a solution to my problem now many hours and couldnt find a definitive answer.. Yesterday I installed AHL Xenons for my factory-installed Xenons on my E90 LCI. Everything works but the adaptive functions. Is there a way to activate them? BMW didnt want to program anything. I didnt change the footwell module yet or anything else but the headlights. Thank you very very much!!!!!! |

have to wait
until Damon gets back for this:
according to Damon, he jay are planning on releasing this conversion in 2-3 months. I'll ask Jay, they are installing lci conversion to pre lci xenon oem ballast and module. Sound like Damon made it work wo any problem. im back east so I ask them to call after the install. |

That sounds interesting!!!
The fact that the new headlights are not plug+play is very sad. every signal the ahl's need is provided by the car - so why not just use it?! its only steering-wheel angle and speed-signal! In my opinion BMW is able to program this - they just dont want to! Thank you! |

I'm considering converting from halogen to xenon (pre/post CLI doesn't matter to me). I understand that when you install adaptive lights, the adaptive function won't work without a "footwell module" or something like that. Assume that the adaptive xenon headlights that are being used in the conversion have the ballast and the controller on them (I guess another question is whether the xenon conversion will work without the controller mounted on the xenon headlight (I know I'd be giving up adaptive at this point) and just the ballast mounted, anyone know)?
My questions are whether you can get the adaptive function to work with either (1) a new footwell module that has been coded for adaptive function or (2) whether you can code your exiting halogen footwell module (if the halogen car does indeed even have a footwell module) with one of the diagnostic tools, such as Bavarian Tech tool/software). I have searched all over and either am using the wrong search request or just can't find the answer to getting adaptive to work. Most posts say adaptive won't work on the conversion, but just wondering if coding the existing module can get them to work. Thanks! |

Ok - Some news about retrofitting the AHL-Function:
It is possible to retrofit this function on LCI-Models. The problem is: There is no Kit from BMW so they expect your dealer to "build" it. Its the cable we all know from the E90 Pre-LCI AHL-Retrofit-Kit that the dealer has to build. Fortunately BMW sends Instructions on how to do this. Second of all there has to be a new footwell-module. The one for AHL's of course.. |

I would wait for the harness boys. Older bimmers are not responding consistent like pre lci conversions. all cars are different and some have issues and some dont. even the cars from factory are having issues bc lights are still new and led is a different animal. for AHL to work you need to wire the entire car which is not pre wired if u have halogens. theres retrofits for pre lci but not lci cars. but kits damon have i can direct you to jay because he just recieved a new shipment in. also, he just converted his lights with OEM ballast and no harness needed. says it errors once a while but the lights are working fine, just that his computer recognized wrong lights but adopts to it. he's had the oem ballast conversion for a few weeks and says the error will turn on but gone in 5 seconds.

and how is HE able to retrofit the adaptive function without the cables wired into my car? i cant imagine that this can be done by just modifying the headlights. retrofitting xenons into halogen cars: no problem but retrofitting the adaptive functions?! just to clear this up: i have xenons, just no adaptive function!

pre ahl xenon to lci ahl xenon. The ballast doesnt fit because the lci has different ballast. I already bought by ebay a used set of ahl lci xenon without anything. And after checking out the wires on the lci unit i also notice the old balast is not going to fit the new lci headlights unit so i have ordered a used xenon balast for the lci headlights unit. But my question is now does the old Electronics box ALC uncoded going to fit the new headlights unit? If i see the connection i can see that it is fitting. My FRM3 module is also in i will let you know if this is going to work. I only wait for the xenon balast so i can test and see if everything works and i also try to swap the old Electronics box ALC to the new headlight unit. Because this Electronics box ALC is letting you're headlight turn when you turn into a corner.

Finally after 2 years i got my frm3 module coded but the lci xenon with ahl. The only thing i just need to do is to pull a new cable from my frm3 module to my heardlight to pin 7 pin 7 is empty and i need to recode the car again because my tailights the inner are brighter than my outer ones. I also check forums in the uk and the guy said i need to the cables so he gave me the numbers for the cable so going to call bmw on monday and ask how much the cables are here in holland if more expensief than i will order it from the states.

You need an FRM 2 module that is specific to AHL. You obviously need the AHL/ Xenon headlights. You'd also have to code the CAS & FRM modules to read the AHL/ Xenon code. You can do this with NCS Expert & Winkfp.
