E92 US to EU reprogramming (deactivating always-on turn signals)
Hi all,
I lived in California for a year and bought a 2007 328i Coupé (E92). I'm back in Europe now and the regulations here don't allow the front turn signals to be always on as they are on this US model (albeit at very low voltage). I called BMW in Munich and they said it's a software problem, but they can't do anything about it and I should contact a third party company dedicated to conversion from US to European models. It can be done. A complete reinstallation of the software into the EU version is risky. I'm looking to reconfigure the current software to turn the turn signals off except when activated to signal turns. Could you help me find the equipment (hardware, software) and knowledge required to do this? Many thanks in advance, Javier |

no, he's talking about the amber signal lights and the LED running lights that are permanently on when the xenons are on. DRLs can be turned on or off with iDrive, for those that have it.
Which European country are you in? I've recently gone through the trouble of bringing over my e92 and got it through the German TUV with US-Spec headlights. Don't expect any support from BMW. Munich isn't interested in supporting you in this process whatsoever. Of course they could do all conversion work without any problems, but frankly they just don't want to. Their interest lies in selling you a Euro-Spec car and you leaving your US-Spec car in NA. Don't expect help from dealerships either, as they are prohibited through Munich to do any conversion work on US-Spec cars. All this is from my personal experience. If you are not able to get past regulations with US-Spec headlights, you have two options. From my knowledge, you could install Euro-Spec headlights, which should be an easy plug-and-play swap, which takes care of the issue, or if you don't want to spend 1300 Euro on new headlights you could take a look at this http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64702. Those bulbs on the side are just parking lights. They are NOT your blinkers. You can just pull them out and live with a bulb warning...... This will not effect the operation of your actual blinkers.....

anytime, if i can be of any additional help let me know. maybe someone else can confirm that the switch from ahl us-xenons to ahl euro-exons is merely a simple swap with no problems of any kind?? despite being able to legally keep my ahl us-xenons, i have been thinking about switching to ahl euro-xenons for the better beam pattern and better resale value.....

I had a US 2006 E90 with adaptive headlights that had the UK adaptive headlights fitted with no issues except the yellow lights were on with the headlights and/or turn signals. It passed SVA in England. I enquired of BMW for a way to remove this but they said it couldn't be done. I figured, if it's passed inspection why change it?
