N54 Oil Pan Gasket
I've done some research about using rtv on the oil pan gasket and people are saying yes put a beed on the pan then add gasket then run a beed over the gasket. But also found that people are saying no don't use any rtv. Just wanting someone's opinion on this because I don't want to revisit the oil pan gasket any time soon.

Done over 10, never used rtv. You can use it if you want. Just not necessary and don't overdo the amount you use.

I agree with everything already said - not necessary, but a THIN coating won't hurt. I've replaced 3 BMW oil pan gaskets (so far) and used RTV on all of them because it can only help.

Well I've already done it without so when it leaks again I'll make sure to put a thin layer. Thanks everyone

Has anyone tried Yamabond 4 with the oil pan gasket? It is used to seal motorcycle engine cases together with no gasket. It seems it may stay pliable with the oil pan gasket to make it last longer from leaking and it certainly is oil resistant.
I have never tried it on a BMW gasket but thought to try it when the time comes. |
