Aftermarket Amplifier help
Hey guys, a little help with choosing and setting up an aftermarket amp.
A little background: picked up 09 e91 for a daily beater a little while ago and finally getting around to interior. Car came with both underseat sibs not working and some of the speakers blown (Hi-fi model). Current set up is 4x Pioneer TS-T110 tweeters, 4x Alpine S-S40 mids and 2 Earthquake X84SWS. Factory hi-fi amp which I'm going to upgrade. It seems JL 600 is the popular choice, but upon reaching out to a local shop, they mentioned something about running in parallel with factory amp? And it producing too much voltage, so it needed converted to be installed as well? (Or something to that extent) So finally couple of questions: 1. Is the shop full of it? (My understanding with tecnik harness it's almost plug and play) 2. Given the current set up, is there a better amp option for us with minimal set up and tuning effort? I'm a total newb when it comes to audio, just FYI. Thanks in advance |

If you have a Hi Fi setup from 06 to 09 they are full of it.
06 to 09 is hi fi for the no pay for it system 2011.5 onward hi fi is standard again . In the Rest of the World the non amped system may be standard in any year. At least the stock setup is a 6 channel amp with one channel going to each major speaker location . They don't know what there talking about which is typical. Only the 2010 to 2011.5 Came with the standard stereo system which had no amp and the parallel connection between the underseats and Front doors. To be sure you know what your car came with run Mdecoder.com on your VIN hi fi is option 676 You list a bunch of speaker's if there already installed it's and you didn't do it how would you know how it's wired. JL 600/6 was the standard amp used and a easy install with the Technic harness. Nothing wrong with it . But DSPamps are popular now even JL makes them. Read these please. (DSP tunning ) Audiotech Fisher 86dsp and BMW7 are typically used. Last edited by ctuna; 08-20-2022 at 12:05 AM.. |

Thank you for such a comprehensive reply! I did some snooping beforehand and did confirm it is 676 optioned car. All the speakers were done by me and I used factory wiring and locations. As per the wiring diagram from one of the links tweeters/ mids in same location share the input.
DSP options look good, but the price point for this budget setup is a little steep. Wife will kill me soon with all the car parts arriving daily. So JL seems like the good diy option as I originally suspected. Thanks again! |

If using the technic harness, just remember to use an amp that accepts differential inputs (iirc).
The XD v2 line (not v1 I believe) from JL should work, I think the dsp VX amps too. There are a few other options too, I believe Arc is one of them, but many other amps may not be so something to look for. If you do want to get into some tuning capabilities, you could look into a stand alone budget dsp too. I'd recommend minidsp, and as an inferior but ultra budget alternative, the Dayton. I wouldn't look at any of the other budget DSPs personally.

I recommend the Audiotec-Fischer Match Up 7BMW. comes with a plug and play wire, has 7 channels, sounds amazing, includes a DSP, leaves the car looking stock.
