Inexpensive alternative to full anthracite headliner diy
Im not spending $1500 for a anthracite headliner. So heres a much cheaper solution. Buy all the trim pieces (a,b,c pillars, air bag logo, oh crap handles, etc) and then spray the fabric yourself.
Yes a few have talked about it, but not done it yet. Ive change the interior fabric color on many cars without a problem. First im going to change the trunk area from grey to black as an example since its easier and I want the whole interior to match. Then remove the headliner, change it to black and buy the plastic pieces from tischer. Should only take a day and cost a fraction of the price of the full headliner. Ill post pics along the way when I start sometime soon. Update: Here is some pics of the trunk area dyed black. The headliner will be done the same way. As the pics show, it looks just like stock black carpet. Update 2: Trunk area finished. I used duplicolor gloss black fabric and vinyl spray. About three light coats. You dont want it too many coats. Just a slight color change so it looks natural. It still feels and acts just like carpet.

Should be up tomorrow sometime. I ran out of dye and the store was closed. Only half done now. About 50% of the trunk area will be done tomorrow. It should give a good indication of what the headliner would look like.

Heres the parts list with pricing. Not all of these parts are needed since we will not be buying the actual headliner. Just buying the pillars and little plastic bits. Also, the dome lights must be painted as well. Buying a new unit requires programming, so I will be using plasti-dip + gloss clear, or trim black to change the dome light unit.
It looks like around $220 for all the parts besides the sun visors which I cant find a price for yet. $200 or $300 for parts, plus a few hours to remove the headliner, dye, and replace. Simple. Stay tuned. Left Sun Visor, Anthracite 51 16 7 960 063 ?? Right Sun Visor, Anthracite 51 16 7 960 064 ?? Somebody just wrapped their stuff in I believe alcantra a few weeks ago. It looked sick. Wrapped the mirrors and all and painted the lights.

Funny you mention that, I am trying the same project this week, and you're local too! I ripped the headliner out on saturday as my car is at the body shop for an m-tech kit install.
What materials are you using? I am using RIT dye in a spray bottle, but I am worried about it rubbing off. Any tips? Here are before pics, yes my garage is messy.
