Still can't believe people pay such a premium for all of 1600's auction flips. The current car on the auction block sounds like a complete mess.

But he does such a nice job presenting the cars!

The lighting under the clouds or at dusk combined with magic vacuum lines make those cars shine

Thanks I don't have a BaT account. And yeah it's definitely the same car. I searched the VIN number in my email right away and got all my emails with the dealer and my PPI.

Where did you find new owner? I had bought a MOST bus loop to check taking the TCU out, but they didn't let me test drive it alone even with covid... Had planned to fix it and then unfix it to make sure that was the problem.

I'm pending in two groups. The one I linked below seems to be US based and the other one seems UK based.

Looks like 1600veloce is just going to ignore my question about the smoke smell in the Vermilion auction. I am curious how he rectified the paint issue on this car as it was really really bad. Likely did a full respray of the driver side from front fender to rear quarter.

And now my comment on the auction was flagged as non-constructive. This is what is wrong with BaT now. The whole point of the comments is to voice opinions and concerns on the vehicle for sale and now we can't even do that because he gets his minions to flag it.

All someone has to do is get five buddies (or have five different accounts) to reach the flag as non-constructive trigger. It's easily manipulated.

I would assume anyone serious about these northern salt exposure driven cars that then receive the dry ice blasting undercarriage realizes the game...hopefully. You can see evidence of surface rust in various spots and on various fasteners where the blasting didn't reach; plus you can immediately tell such a car by the very bright appearance of the bolt/nuts..I suppose the surface treatment they had from the factory is somewhat compromised in the process of blasting the rust off them.

Appreciate the support in the comments of BaT.

I agree, I feel bad for anyone who buys one of his dry iced underside cars and lives in the northeast. I bet in a few years of winter driving, the undersides are in pretty bad shape because he removes the protection.

I have not looked at the BaT car yet, but are you f-ing kidding me on the "smoked in?" comment being flagged as non-constructive??? Jesus, this is a MAJOR item for me when looking for a car. Has anyone followed up on the comment by chance?

I typed out basically the same response a second time and he conveniently saw it this time and this was his response:

I did not see your post, if you didn’t hashtag me I will not pick the comments up right away. I have a few listings up and ending so we have been a little overwhelmed. I do get to all of the questions but priority goes to the ones ending first in order. I just took some meter readings and the rear quarter was painted and has a blend in to the doors. The paint looks nice and there are no smells in the car. This E91 also does not have a smokers package. This car came out of VA and from the Carfax it did spend time in MD. The car came to us and we did a full service. The rear main seal had a leak and we did a full clutch service along with a flywheel and all the driveline fluids. Of course this is an open forum and I’m active everyday answering questions and post on other members auction when I can. Thanks

Personally, I think he is full of shit and plays the part well. He knows damn well what this car was and fixed the paint and interior odor and is playing dumb. It was a very obvious smoke smell inside. The paint was horrible as well and 100% either needed a major wetsanding effort or full respray of the whole driver's side.

I have some pictures from my PPI where you can see inclusions in the paint and bad texture. Low quality pictures though. I do remember the color looked like a good match at least. Maybe someone clear coated the whole side and did a really bad job. 1600veloce or the other owner could have found color.matching front fender and driver door in good condition and swapped them. Those are same as on a sedan so difficult to find but not impossible. The black trim on the driver door around the window had some additional issues and dents.

That left rear quarter paint job look horrific. Just look at the reflections and the holograms/lines such as in pic #42. Compare to pic #58 on the other side.

I sold my E39 M5 on BaT almost 3 years ago now after having owned it for 15 years. My car had paintwork also, but it was done on a new door skin back in 2005, and the shop that did it guaranteed it would look OE in texture and color which it actually did (it's the LF door in my auction pictures). I fully disclosed the details of it, how it happened and provided the complete body shop receipt. In 2011 I had a very high end detailer full paint correct the car, and he didn't even notice that door skin had been replaced and had a hard time finding any minute issue with it once I told him to look at it, lol. So real near OE quality paintwork can be had, for a price, at the right shop.

SUPER shady that 1600 owns a paint meter yet NEVER includes readings as part of his auctions unless asked. Clearly a deal in place with BaT where his cars get priority whether it's a paid arrangement or he's simply a friend of the website. Nothing wrong with being a dealer or reselling cars but it's just annoying watching him make a killing on wagons over and over.

BaT was really cool several years ago but like I've said in previous comments, it has just turned into a flippers paradise. No different than eBay. It used to be that 95% of the cars were long term owners moving on from a vehicle or it was an actual project, hence the name bring a trailer, that wasn't finished or running. I can understand the appeal to scale the concept and make more money but it has completely diluted their original product.

Totally agree. And on top of it all, being a dealer and bidding against him at auctions when he can pay a ridiculous price knowing it will go on BaT and still net him a killer profit, is even more frustrating.

I am with you on BaT, it is sad it has become a flipper's paradise. I have sold 2 cars on there and have a third lined up soon. All of which were consignment deals for long term owners.
