After sitting on the fence for a while around what my next mod would be I sourced a WaveTrac differential for my 07 bolted diff earlier this year from Alan @ **********s.

Searching for installers local to my area was a chore, a few general performance shops said they could do the job but upon interrogation didn't have the expertise or machinery to pull it off.

I eventually came around to talking to VAC Motorsports in Philadelphia for the install, VAC is a name that consistently came up in the BMW community as a source for advanced performance modifications.

I ran through the process of the diff install with CJ at VAC, they told me about their machining process and I was convinced that they were the right shop for the job.

When I arrived at the shop, I was greeted by CJ and took a quick tour of their impressive machining facilities.
I dropped the car off, and a few days later I got the call that my new beast was ready to pick up.

I was stunned by the transformation: a night and day transformation in both off the line and cornering performance.
Power was put down smoothly and evenly in the straight and corners.
I have to admit it's been hard to keep my foot off the gas and my rear in a clean line.

With 2,000 miles now on the diff, it still proves an impressive and worthwhile modification. Some mods like intake, exhaust and chip slowly become part of the norm the WaveTrac continues to deliver the awesome. It's been the single most impressive modification I've done.

If anyone's on the fence about a differential, or considering it among a number of mods; stop. Get the Limited Slip!

One negative aspect of the mod is that it brought to light the sloppiness of the rear suspension on our e90 platform, which I'm planning on correcting with a set of PowerFlex bushings. All of the PowerFlex bushings can be DIY'd except for the subframe bushing which I'm having VAC do in the near future.

I´ve had mine for about a year now and I´m loving it it´´s been the best mod so far without question. The 335 should have been dillivered with a lsd from the factory
Just wait till it starts snowing and you´ll enjoy it even more

I already love it in the rain I'm sure it'll be amazing once the snow hits! After getting it installed, I don't think I'll be able to ever go back to an open diff car.

forgot to mention I did the M3 subframe bushings at the same time, really helps stabilize the car under load.

Yo! Have Wavetrac.

Note to prospective Quaife buyers: Wavetrac now scrolls shaft mating parts for lube/antiseize like Quaife & BMW.

There was that famous Quaife install thread saying Wavetrac doesn't, which then, suppose it didn't.

Competitive aren't they?

Congrats on your wavetrac LSD. I've had my Quaife for 9 months now and I can only agree with everyone else, that a LSD is by far the best mod for the 335i, and also that it should've never come without it in the first place.

Only I wish I had done the M3 suspension mods as well, because the rear does get a bit fussy sometimes.....

+1 No sh*t. I don't know how much cash I've waisted over the last 20+ years of modding my cars with stuff that just wasn't really worth it.... The more reason to love one that does

Funny how the car feels much faster with the LSD vs without. I bet its all that wasted wheel-spin you get without it and don't even realize how much it is robbing the driving experience. I have had the Quaife for close to 6 months now. I don't even think about it anymore. Its there working and yet so obstructive. Excellent Mod IMO.

I've had the Dinan LSD for aBout 8-9 months and I love it as well. (which unit they use, who knows) I was told by the Dinan rep it was "very similar to the wavetrac". It was a lot more convenient to just swap the assemblies for me. The bushings are a nice improvement as well! I concur with you on this one.

it doesn't just feel faster, it IS faster... no doubt.

Take a left hand corner at a light (or right for that matter) and pull out really quickly... every day I do that, and every day I think this was worth every penny I spent.

You HAVE to get the subframe, sway and M3 arms at the same time in the rear I think. The rear end is now arrow straight under power, braking and cornering.

I also feel like it torque vectors, or drives the car onto the line you want after apex. love the feel....

Similar....yes....OEM'd. I paid <$1800.00 out the door including sales tax for the Wavetrac.

I'm so envious of those who have this! I just wish there was a more cost-effective way for us with welded diffs. I usually have pretty deep pockets when it comes to mods but man!.....the way I see it unless you have an awesome local machine shop with experience in dealing with welded diffs, you have to go the swap route:

Wavetrac = $2000 /Quaife = $2600
Core = $1000
Shipping x2 = $200
M3 subframe bushings = $250
Install, fluids, etc = $800-$1000?

So you're looking at a $4,500-$5,000 initial outlay! You get $1,000 of that back with the core but since you can't sell a car without a diff, you can't even recoup any of the costs back when you sell your car.

At an absolute min, I guess you could go Wavetrac, skip the bushings and install it yourself for a bit over $2k. Am I missing something?

Do you still get the thud when you put it in gear? Was around to watch a wavetrac install last weekend (a transplant, so not the newest version of wavetrac) and when clutch is depressed moving it from neutral to 1st you hear a thud. It worked perfectly on the street, just a little sound to deal with.
