trying to confirm dead DME

Hello all.

I have a non running 2007 335xi. the car stopped running after i left it plugged into a battery charger from under the hood points.

the symptoms are as suck.
car cranks strong.
in tank fuel pump runs non stop once key is in (not sure if this is normal)
the i drive shows all sorts of failures. from transmission to awd to dsc. then scrolls into engine running still possible at reduced power, but it does not run.

so i ordered the cable and followed the instructions and finally got it to connect.

i can "talk" to every module except the dme. it just wont connect to it at all. one thing i did notice however is that CAS voltages. on terminal 15 (acc) says 0 volts. every other terminal 15 has battery voltage. except the acc.

so is there a way i can confirm that the DME is fried. or that maybe it just isnt waking up.

thank you for any help.

ps: terminal 50E does energize during cranking

I have the BMW workshop software. The software shows solutions for many problems. Send me a PM with your vin number and I see if I can find some instructions to check the dme

I would start by checking for power to the DME per the following TIS circuit diagram:
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...supply/x1zko9v

Make sure fuse F50 is intact and with ignition on there should be 12V+ at F78 Fuse socket if DME Relay (K6300) is operating. The diagram and fuse identification in that link is for 335xi E90 built 3/1/2007 - 8/31/2007, so if you have different chassis or mfg date, drill down & select correct ID (or drill down to entry page & enter VIN).

thank you.

yes im finding that there are all sorts of different electronics and schematics for this car. i think my dme relay is built into the junction box and non replaceable.
Ill check for voltages at the DME.

thank you for the help. ill keep this updated.

and no voltage at fuse 78. so i suppose im looking for a fuse block? or do i stand a chance to open this thing up and re solder a new relay in place?

are these fuse blocks vin coded? or can i go old school and just replace a part without bmw having to be involved?

also im tempted to take a fused feed and back feed the dme via the pin on fuse 78. any advise against?

Which software do you actually have because that printout
looks like DIS57 which is pretty obsolete.

Better to run the latest version's of IstaD and the Inpa suite
found at Bimmergeeks.net

Not sure when DIS57 ended for which model years but
ISTA D runs through the entire e9x models as long as you
have up to date Daten files.

BEFORE you assume the DME Relay (K6300) is bad, check to see if you can make it click by applying a ground to the relay coil, Pin #1 of JB Connector X11010, or Pin #5 of Connector X60551 in the E-box, BOTH Red/Gray wires. See Installation Location & Connector view links below...
Pins & sockets corrode, get pushed out of place, etc., and before assuming K6300 is faulty, try applying 12V+ and Ground respectively to the two relay coil pins. The ground pin is the prime suspect, and if you already have the E-box open, probably easiest to backprobe Connector X60551, Pin#5, Red/Gray wire with a ground jumper, and see if that activates/clicks the relay. Here are Installation Location diagrams for X60551 & X11010:

Hi,

Im pretty sure its dis57, i am still trying my best to navigate these waters w emulators and such. but i think its 57,

And i could have been clearer as to how i measured my pins 1 2 3 for no voltage. this was not thru the software but at the dme connector x60003

pin one was hot. pin 2 and 3 which are feed from fuse 78 and that is fed by the relay is not getting any voltage.

i haven't removed the fuse block next but that is next. will have to wait for monday.

Dis57 is probably not new enough for a 335. Also its usually
packaged to run under a VM which makes it even worse(slower than
molasses on winter day).
Do yourself a favor and download Ista D and Inpa from
bimmergeeks.net and set it up.
No emulators required unless you have Apple products.

diagnostic manual ista/inpa
https://bimmerprofs.com/diagnostics-inpa-part-1/
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...xo19teM9vkTF-C
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...7x8H3pN8h1fMuF

Anybody know if DIS57 will even support a 335 DME software/firmware?

What does Inpa say about your DME ?
see the first pdf it shows you how to do module id if
it reads you dme it might be that DIS57 software is not
current enough to work with the car.

thank you so much for the guidance. it i IS under an emulator and its the biggest PITA i have ever ran across. half way the instructions i felt like facing Bavaria and saying a prayer to the bmw god's.

and after installing all that came with the cable. my c: drive looked like bmw vomited all over my hard drive and there is a litany of software on it most of it is in german and that is a roadblock for me.

i'll pursue the ista as i keep seeing it being mentioned and seems to be the bee's knees.

thank you so much everyone.

I went through setting DIS57 up under a VM when I got
started learned a lot about VM's but its a pain .
Its also a pain to use. On every operation and load you are
waiting minutes for a response. For most the the e90 life cycle
they have been using ista as the chief diag.
It has guided trouble shooting procedures and is basicly
a shop manual online.

That said the instruction you are getting for tracking it down so
far has been excellent.
What sort of charger was it?

it is a black&decker cheapo. switching power supply. no real transformer to speak of. it has served me well but maybe it was a coincidence or maybe it wasn't

My issue with no power to the DME was fuse 4. I was tinkering with trying to fix a wiper electrical issue and somehow inadvertently removed fuse 4 and didn't replace. Put one in and Vroom! make sure to check the appropriate fuse for your model year.
