How bad is synthetic blend?

After 5k miles? 10k miles? 15k miles? Valvoline Max Life Blend on N52 motor with 100k miles.

Theoretically speaking; no one should ever attempt this.

Probably not great... with all of them. Do a black stone report and then you'll really get some details.

Why do you ask though?

I'm guessing you already have that oil in your engine and reason why you're asking? if the case, than just don't keep it for too long, change it after a couple of thousands miles? No scientific data to back me up here, but guessing the oil will break down sooner than a full synthetic... how much sooner I don't think anyone has the exact answer as it probably depends on how you drive your car, so obviously don't beat the crap out of your car if very hot/humid outside....

Mechanic shop put synthetic blend in the car. Drove like 10,000 miles with it, granted it was leaking so i added four full synthetic bottles along the way. On top of that they used a NAPA filter that I discovered was caved in. Engine is making a whirring sound that increases with rpm.

You leaked 4 qts in 10k mi? Oil pan gasket? Good god.

Whirring noise? Give your pulleys a listen - I mean synthetic blend shouldn't kill the engine (ever) but I do know it breaks down a lot sooner than synthetic.

The real question is who put anything except synthetic in a modern BMW?

Full synthetic has properties so you can do high interval oil changes, semi would half that life. I still do 3k , being any engine running injectors, of valves off oil pressure, it's always good to keep intervals short. I would never go 5k on any oil, but that just me. Oil is cheap insurance to keep your internals clean.

I highly doubt the engine is leaking bad enough to use a quart of oil every 2,500 miles. The engine is consuming oil for some reason. It may be a failing oil separator. My engine had a pretty substantial pan leak by the time a changed the gasket at 293K and the oil consumption (1L/5,000 miles) didn't really change after the leak. If it is leaking that muck oil, then you'd be smelling it and have a serious oil mess on you hands.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

It was a main seal leak, and radiator leak that got fixed, drove 2,500 miles already and oil level the same.
