748Adam E92 335 the Black Beauty
Hi guys,
Been lurking on here for a little bit now, buying a few nice bits off you guys. Anyway, I bought my E92 off a member off here so a few of you may remember the car. I bought it as a standard 335 SE and over the last 3 months I have changed a few things. First thing I did was to give her a good clean, as it had seen better days, I also removed the number plates as I was awaiting some pressed metal ones I didn't really like the wheels so I swapped my CSL wheels from my E46 onto the E92, looks much better now Next on the list was a JB4, DCI bought from INQ on here, surprisingly easy to install, only took 45 mins to do both which I was relieved about The standard calipers were looking a little sorry for themselves and the front discs were slightly warped so took full advantage of the euro car parts 69% off sale and got me some brembo discs and pads, and some paint (we all know painted calipers are worth 50bhp each!! ) I then turned my attention to the massive arch gap. I didn't want to go coilovers like I did on my E46 because the ride was just too firm no matter how I adjusted it, and the build quality of the BC Coilovers was shocking (no pun intended). I went through 3 sets of rear dampers and 2 spring at the front, I crawled over speed humps and have a short commute on smooth roads so to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I decided to go for the tried and tested Bilstein B8 paired with 50mm H+R Springs, rides lovely, little firmer than stock but not crashy or uncomfortable I then started to get Overboost issues, having done a little bit of reading I decided to swap all the vaccuum lines (more of a preventative measure than anything else) and also swap the stock diverter valves for forge items. These came again from INQ I have also swapped the boost solenoids but still having overboost issues, I need to do a log with the JB4 before changing anything else. Charge pipe has also been changed for a FTP unit, not quite a straight forward install as the bend near the throttle body is a little deeper meaning that I had to remove the throttle body attach the charge pipe and then re-fit the throttle body, was a little alarmed to see a fair bit of oil in the old charge pipe (I will be ordering a catch tank I think) I have also ordered a 7" VRSF intercooler from ML Performance, unfortunately when it arrived it had been severely damaged by the courier. Credit to ML Performance who have already organised for it to be collected and a new one delivered, great customer service Thanks for reading, I will try my best to keep this thread up to date. Nice looking car, great base for mods which you have already started on. Regarding the overboost I would look at jb4 menu 12. this is what cures my overboost problems as the adjustment was set too high. I did logs and sent them over to bms thankfully as I was about to start paying a garage to start changing bits.

Thanks, I'll try to do a log tomorrow, fairly certain I've just heard the dreaded wastegate rattle though.
Had new turbos in 2015, what's the warranty from bmw on the turbos? |

Warranty is 2yrs. I also had mine changed in 2015. Not sure they will do anything about it if it's just wastegate rattle. Surprised yours got it as I thought the newer turbos had the situation rectified.
Check your jb4 setting 12 before you head out. Mine wasn't really high by default and was told each car is different as to what to set it to. |

Congrats on the purchase and all the right mods so far
The drop and rims set it off nicely. I've got an intermittent boost issue with mine and still not been able to sort it. Drives me nuts.

Thanks for the kind words guys,
Raj I have read your epic build thread at least 10 times and it it truely is a masterpiece! I love the mods you've done and I can only dream of doing what you have done. I think I have solved the overboost issues, I posted over at n54 tech and terry came to the rescue, Turns out it was trying to run a back end flash that wasn't there, the fuel bias settings were all over the place, been for a test drive and I have to say, she's pretty much back to her best!! I say pretty much as I did have a little bit of surging under light constant throttle. |

Well the replacement intercooler arrived on Wednesday, I really must say the customer service from MLPerformace has been brilliant.
As you can see it can only be described as massive! I set to at 9:30 this morning, I decided to give myself a lot more room and removed the front bumper (should come in handy if I ever find a m sport one that isn't crippled) The standard intercooler is pretty small and is only held in by 2 small torx bits. I also upgraded the lower charge pipes to metal ones getting this hose off with no dremmel or cutters was a proper pain in the preverbial! Due to the increase in size a little cutting had to be done in order for the new cooler to fit Here it is roughly in place All bolted up Whilst the bumper was off I took the chance to reprint the lower grills, they had definitely seen better days, I was also playing with the idea of leaving the centre grill out With the grill in place I opted to go without! |

Little update time.
Just before christmas I bought myself a carbon fiber high kick spoiler off eBay, Fitment was a bit hit and miss and thought a bodyshop could get it looking the best it could, managed to get it fitted today along with a machine polish of the boot lid and nearside wing, gotta wait until 5 to take the tape off but over all I'm pretty happy with the way it looks And even better the cost was £0!! |

Oh well, it seems as though yet another SE is going to get the 'treatment ' with the obligatory sport or, as seems to be getting increasingly popular some kind of 'M' style front bumper I know your thinking about it
It won't be long before stock looking 335i SEs will be a rare & wonderful thing Having said that I was guilty of doing a sport conversion on my e39 540iSE 6M/T Looking good

I wish it was! One of my customers at work has it so he can work on his bently, mx5, mustang and focus rs. That's just one of his garages too, he let me borrow it in return for a good deal

My friend is, plan is to fully chop the cat out and weld in a replacement pipe in its place, a cheap decat I know but these downpipes only stand me at £15 rather than the VRSF replacements.

DCI is great, can hear the induction roar which is kind of addictive, I'm looking at altering the coals for m3 ones so it deletes the big cabin filter housing, should aid cooling and release more noise
