Trolley jack options?
Hi guys
I’m after a new trolley jack for Xmas. I want it to be low profile and good quality. I also want it to be one of the twist handle to lower jobs, not the ones you pull out the handle and twist that little valve.... don’t know why, just don’t like my current one like that. Not looking at spending silly money but £100 mark ish is fair for occasional diy use. I was looking at the light weight ally ones but have seen a few bad reviews tbh! And a few warnings Doesn’t need to be overrated either, will just be lifting part of a lightweight beetle and a corner of the e91. The Halfords one is looking surprisingly good at the minute with the lifetime warranty (I think) Or Arcan brand people seem to rave about. I was looking at SGS but have seen a few bad reviews when you dig deeper... Any experiences? Cheers Andy |

if you look and compare all on offer, at different prices - you will see that they are all made in China and effectively they are just rebranded to the UK seller.
Presumably you need a "low" Trolley Jack to easily fit under your BM, plus, up to 5 of those plastic inserts that are for sale on eBay at about a fiver each - (you need 5 just in case you are planning to support your BM with 4 Axle Stands - with one plastic thing as a spare just in case) - it's important that you use these "inserts" as otherwise you may deform the Jacking point on the BM's Also compare the weights (of the Trolly Jacks) Have a look on Utube - "jacking up your E90" Last edited by Bluewater335D; 12-02-2018 at 11:41 AM.. |

I've got this sgs one. Proper solid and heavy but could've done with being just a few mm lower. For the price I don't think you can go wrong.

Yeah perfect. Like I said my one is literally only a few mm too high. I literally had to drive the car on to a piece of wood 10mm thick for it to go under with plenty of room. It does go under my mrs 120d Msport though.

I've got a couple of SGS jacks that I bought about a year and a half ago - used them many times with no problems.
2.5 ton low profile which I use with the centre jacking points. I have to drive the car up on a couple of pieces of wooden cladding for it to reach. There is a 3 ton low profile model as well but it is taller. https://www.sgs-engineering.com/gara...e-trolley-jack The other one I have is a 1.5 ton aluminium racing jack. A LOT lighter and useful for just jacking up a corner at a time. https://www.sgs-engineering.com/gara...m-trolley-jack Like others have said they appear to be rebranded jacks. Not sure who actually make them but I've seen identical jacks under several brands. |

Yh wolf or something on eBay looks the same...
Be nice to use the central jacking points! Much easier to pop it up there and stick a couple stands in in one move. |

+1 for the SGS ones, I have two of the 3t one to do the truck as well. They are a few mm too high for an e90 however I remove the pad, do one side an inch up, get the other side sorted then lower and stick the pad in.
Whatever you do, but some of the hockey puck doofers “jack pads” to go into your jacking point, avoid squashing them. Never rely on just a jack though... I have massive hardwood blocks under the sills, subframe etc. |
