Service interval based on oil state or driving habits?
I read on some thread on here that the E90 monitors oil state and driving patterns and adjusts the miles to next oil change accordingly.
I got my first oil change at 4200 miles. My service indicator is showing the next oil change to be at 12,000 miles (another 1000). So I'm wondering if I just drive it too hard because I can't have contaminated the oil so quickly. I generally don't drive it too hard except for the occasional on-ramp spirited merge, traffic light launch etc. |

From what I gathered on previous threads, the service interval is based solely on how much fuel is consumed (660 gallons to be exact).
So, if you drive like a nut and burn up fuel like crazy (eg. lots of track time), you'll be looking at an early oilchange. And if you drive like a grandma or on lots of highways, your oilchange will be longer than usual.

i used to think or was told once by some bmw technician that 'lead foot , burn rubber 'drivers need more regular oil change-= computer signal comes on at more frequent intervals.

just change your oil every 5,000 miles.....
then you don't have to worry about some computer telling you when it's time....
