Yes thank you very much for the wine Tony. You really are a gent. We should have all paid like 8 quid more to make it 50 quid and then the extra 8quid each could have gone towards the prizes. We can do that next time!

Pleased with my result and as previously mentioned,I think the reason for the difference between Carlos' and mine BHP figure was due to his extra mileage, and the fact he probably never understood the concept of 'running in'.
I don't think the hole in my roof had anything to do with the difference by the way,if anything I was surprised,as I thought mine would be lighter

Top marks to James, his 335i was truely awesome,on the dyno and out on the road, very capable driver too, although there was a horrible smell in my car when I left, probably made worse by my heated seats!
I did change my trousers prior to our works evening do thankfully, and on that note my *ucking head hurts!

Hopefully Carlos and I will return to Marlow and redo the test, the results will be fascinating.
I have e-mailed BMW in Germany to ask if they coud send over my missing roof section,it's only fair the retest is done on a level playing field

Hi Ian,

was good to meet you mate!! Did you get my text?

I do understand the concept of running in really and have done it to several road cars, but couldnt be arsed with it.. Also used to have to run in my 100cc kart engines after a rebuild every 4 hours. That was a strict running in procedure!!

Se ya Tues!

Ditto Carlos and yes got your text, apologies for not responding, this was due to my fingers being incapable of working, and any possible response would have been unintelligible save 'Another Jack Daniels please',which is a standard reply!

My comment about running in was flippant, and like most, went whooooosh right over your fandango bonce

Yep bell you on my way to Fandango Mansions,I will ring the Guys at Marlow tomorrow and enquire as to the cost of a rerun,I'm guessing if I take enough teabags, a substantial discount will be proffered, I'll hum and you sing.

It wasnt meant to come out that the machine was over reading, what I was saying was that you cant compare figure's from two different rolling roads, because each one is different

I think all the figures are great, just a shame a certain converible didnt reach 400bhp.....you did in my eyes - always better to round up

If I win Carlos can stump up the cash for the CF grills I've seen from the states.

If I lose, I'll buy them myself

Carlos & Hotcoupe

If you take the cars back next week after the remap make sure you get take pictures of the big screen. Also see if they can get before and after put on the same graph as it would be good to see.

Looking forward to your reviews on Tuesday night.

It is incredible how BMW have devloped two cracking engines, both six cylinder, both twin turbo, but one diesel one petrol, with performance so close!!!! They are certainly at the forefront of engine development.

I wonder what their diesel and petrol engines will be like in 10 years??? Probably 400BHP from a 2 litre, and under 100g/km emmissions - who knows?

Oli, I fully agree with you the technology on BMW engines is at the forefront of the market and can be seen in the likes of the 335i, 335d, M5, 123d. Also I forgot how fantastic the 6 cylinder petrol sounds and the 130i yesterday reminded me what a peach of an engine a 6 cylinder BMW is a full chat.

Carlos did a real world test of 335d vs 335i yesterday and he said there was nothing in it from 60 upwards so they have 2 truly magestic non M engines.

I also remember the 328i coming out in the E36 and the 330i in the E46, both top of the class in their day respectively. The future should be fantastic and a trip round BMWs R&D department would be very interesting.

I remember when I first drove a 6 cylinder BMW - the noise and power delivery was sublime, and that was an engine developed in the 70's, look where they are now - amazing!

OK I have a thought/question:

Several of the cars (mine included) were up on torque but down on BHP. Now, BHP is a just a measure of torque and RPM (and a factor of 3600 in there somewhere) so the more RPM the more power (in general).

But - since our peak RPM is pretty much limited by BMW shouldn't we be more interested in torque? After all - a manual will rev all the way to the rev limiter - an automatic even in kickdown will not hit the rev limiter.

(The reason I'm wondering about this is that my graph shows a rising power chart all the way to the end and I blame the stupid gearbox software for changing up!)
