BMS DCI vs homemade DCI

I really want to do a DCI, and given the price of the BMS I'd like to just pull the trigger on it. But I'd really rather have orange filters, since I have orange accents.

My question is is there a comparable quality filter available?

Just try to make it yourself, I believe the BMS cones come with an 2inch ID to attach to the pipe as to where most after market filter cones that you find at the store are 3inch ID... Just get yourself two 2 to 3inch adapter pipes and 2 cones and you'll have yourself DCI.

Yes - it's only $100 bucks, and you know it will fit properly right out of the box. If you got time to be messing with sizing things up, cutting, and retrying things, running back to stores for fitment issues to save 30-40 bucks, then give it a shot.

Also, there's an indicator of how far down the tube to position the filter because if you go too far you will negatively impact airflow.

Good luck!

The quality of the filter is arguably the most important part if you end up the DIY route. There are a lot of cheap low quality filters available.

Yes, the only thing is they have the 2 inch ID to fit around the little piece of pipe they provide.

but if you go to the store and buy a 2 to 3 inch adapter and regular filters it'll work just the same... the pipes from BMS don't look very long so just get a bit of 2 inch pipe to extend your adapter... up to you

As I stated in the original post, I would rather just spend the extra $30 or so, than mess with building my own. However I would prefer orange filters (not offered by bms) to a greater extent than the time saved by buying. The price isn't the issue.

How can I determine quality filters? Just pick from a reputable brand?

So why did you start a thread asking to go DCI or homemade DCI if you don't want to make your own.

Like I stated, you'll have to find air filter cones with a 2 inch ID to fit the BMS plastic pipes... good luck finding those in orange.

I'm not aware of any brands that offer orange filters. Most are Red Blue or Grey.

Buy my used BMS DCI for $50 + shipping. I have a few sets.

I have RB inlets if you want a real upgrade. DCI do basically nothing...compared to real inlets.

Really? I've heard mixed reviews with people not hearing a difference. Could you describe what make it sound better over all? Do you still have stock diverter valves?

My car is fully stock apart from unplugging the exhaust valve so it stays open.

As for difference, you can clearly hear a more louder overall sound coming from the front, louder engine "air" noises and just overall louder noise, hard to explain I guess. When flooring it is it definitely louder and when that turbo spool you def hear it loudly with windows down.

From inside you do have an increase in sound. I still have the stock cabin cowl to.

It was rainy tonight so wasn't able to do a full 1 to 2 to 3 pull but stock the diverter valve noise wasn't that silent at 7k rpm shifting and with this intake I must imagine it will be even louder and no need personally for a BOV. Yeah a BOV would be even louder and do it when shifting a low RPM but I'm sure I'll love the sound. Can't wait to drive it more tomorrow hopefully no rain.

When stopped and giving it some revs it just sounds so much better, once again overall it just sounds more loud. Sounds loud and better for sure! I'm having difficulty explaining it as I only drove about 30 mins tonight but like, it's honestly amazing the difference it makes.

I knew an intake would make the car sound amazing and with the down pipes I plan on getting in about a month I think the car will be complete. I love this car so much now and it's only been 3 weeks wow hahahaha.

Thanks for those details! sounds like it would be a decent mod to make without a flash, I would just be worried about all the heat under there getting to the cones and not performing as well... you might need a flash for your downpipes so that you don't throw codes with the extra flow "I could be wrong"

They certainly do add noise. I'm sure they free up a few HPs with a tune. No tune, just a waste of time and money for sound. Then again, why would anyone buy an N54/N55 and not tune it? Tunes are free.

I counted and I have 7 DCI in my garage. $25 each or $50 for two. Your call.

Also have a set of RB driver's side inlets if someone wants a real upgrade.

Yeah I'm a bit worried about stock and heat but I read shouldn't affect negatively unless you sit in traffic. And yeah for downpipes definitely plan on getting MHD tune.

Ok sounds good I don't mind driving to Ottawa anywhere to meet either, let me know by PM.
