Last week I began to see fine metal shavings in the oil filter housing while doing the oil change. I used a boroscope to look through the valve cover and didn’t see anything obvious. Friend of mine suggested that the rod bearings may be on their way out. I ordered everything from FCP and just finished putting the bearings in. Cleaning out my oil pan. There was a screw in the bottom of the pan that I’ve never seen before. I’m wondering if any of you guys could identify where this may have come from so that I can address and fix it.

Edit: checked with many other techs and conclusion is either my magnet unknowingly had this on it and I grabbed it without paying attention prior to checking pan or we have a mystery on our hands. Either way, will send oil to black stone to see possible metal shaving culprit. Vehicle runs fine

I don’t have experience with vanos bolts but think I remember reading that some may break off. I don’t know if that matches look of them but you can probably search for threads on that to compare. Good luck!

Vanos bolts aren't button head, so it's not that, realize that doesn't help..
