Please Help , Communication Error , no awd-cruise-abs-dsc-red brake light-hill assist
Hello , Im new to the forum. Ive been tackling a problem with my 07 335xi for a few weeks now. I get the three lights Red Brake, yellow ABS and DCS light, With the ABS over 4X4 message.
Currently not working: ABS DSC AWD Cruise Control Adaptive Headlights(probably another issue in itself) Start Assist Things i have done: Rear brake pad wear sensors Brakes& Rotors Alignment Checked all fused Wheel turn Left To Right New VTG module(VSGS) New Battery Coded Alternator Tested Codes Pulled: D36A D36B Cleared all codes, Those are the ones that keep coming back Took to a reputable indy shop.. Tech told me that they can't communicate with the VTG module to read it.! Soo… I bought another VTG unitas they suggested.., Installed and took back to get it programmed and the same thing..No Communication… Extremely Frustrated! I just bought this car, and it has plenty of power, Everything else works perfectly! I Don't want to sell the car, bc i do not want anyone else to inherit these problems like I did. If anyone has any info or can help, Id greatly appreciate it! Ive read through a lot of threads and tried a lot but i am open to any suggestions!! |

I'm hoping that i just bought another unit that was bad…..(bought is used off ebay) is there any way to test the VGSG module to find out ? testing resistance? voltage from pins? i have INPA which is what I'm using to check the codes. i clear them but they come back directly, when i try to read the VGSG module directly it says "NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROL UNIT" car drives fine!

look through here and see if anything makes sense.......the wheel speed sensors and steering angle sensors cause some funky stuff to happen |

thank you, I ran INPA. Wheel speed sensors are good, Brake wear sensors good, battery good, steering angle sensor threw a code one time, but when i turn the wheel after signaling the signal goes off….? did the turn left to right thing, nothing… I know i have a vacuum leak that is going to be fixed this afternoon… i will see if that affects anything and report back…. milage has been poor as well. my main concern is the AWD , ABD, DSC and such tho..

Speedo Works
Gas Guage works Steering angle sensor….registers when i check it on INPA , I can see it move when i turn the wheel, Turn signal cut off when moving the wheel doesn't always work.. sometime it cuts off after the turn and sometimes it doesn't.' steering wheel controls work, except for cruise control Wipers Work Fixed a couple Vacuum leaks last night, No Fix , But car seem to run a tad better.. |

It's not what I was thinking then...
Maybe try and figure out which bus the VTG module is on. Then see if other modules on that bus are able to be read. If not, that bus is down and the VTG and/or another module is causing the bus to crash. Module/bus structure can be found in the attached PDF |

thank you! I looked over that in detail. I didn't see which bus the actual VGSG(VTG) module is on from the diagrams but figure from the routing, Its either on the PT-CAN, F-CAN , or K-CAN. Which seem to be all fine…. Im no pro at Running INPA, But shouldn't this program be able to give me an idea of whats going on?? If someone has in depth experience of INPA , I have Team Viewer and would be more than happy to let someone check it out, Maybe Im missing something…..

ok i looked at my DSC/ABS Unit that is directly beside the brake fluid resivor. not sure but i thought there were suppose to be a total of 6 brake lines going into that, 4 from the top and 2 from the side the pump is mounted to.. I only have the 4 front the top. No other lines are present… Different models? the ones for my make and model all have 6… this normal..?

ok scratch that… I have 6 lines going into the unit. reading on INPA I now get a 51B0 Code(Brake Pressure Switch) DSC Signal Not Plausible…… Can that Sensor be replaced, from what i see its built into the unit. Also Can that unit cut off communication to the "VGSG Module(VTG)"? bc through INPA I get D_VGSG NO RESPONSE FROM CONTOL UNIT…??
Also Is -08-09 a normal vacuum ready.? only reaches -10 a times. NO 30FF Codes.. replaced a lot of vacuum hoses. no change. I am Reading vacuum through a CMGS Boost Guage/Progressive Meth Controller. |

So you need a new abs pump or rebuild yours....and that's why you got communications problems because of failed signal to vgsg, pretty common.

Is there anyway I can't test it? If not will a unit from a non-XI work, say if I buy one that was in a 335i? So that DSC/abs unit can cut off communication from INPA to read it... Crazy. So I may have a good VGSG unit after all..

Should be a XI only, you can try to swap only the pump as the control module is vin coded, unit is 2 parts module+pump and you can unscrew them and replace only pump.

So you think its just the pun that failed? i don't know much about it, but i figured the actual brake pressure switch may be in the module, correct me if I'm wrong tho! i will start to price up some units and get one ordered asap.

I highly doubt the pump or control unit is bad.
Typically, 5Dxx faults store for a bad pump/control unit. OP, you can go into INPA and see if you can connect to the DSC unit. Then activate the valves or bleeding procedure. If you can, the hydro unit is not your issue. |

Ive got the 51BO Code.. Brake switch signal not plausible for DSC.
and yes i did the brake bleed procedure by accident, and the pump was running… definitely made noises… there is a function to check the clutch too, when i do that, i can hear a thump noise from the unit and my red brake, ABS and DSC light goes off for a second and then comes back on. after that test function is complete it say clutch function test not ok.. not sure if thats a test for some sort of clutch in the DSC unit, or for a manual vehicle, bc mine is an Automatic Trans. Also had the Longitudinal sensor calibration Same thing happens when i run that test too, lights off on dash , then back on… what could cause this code? |
