Question Should I swap E87 Sports Seats In My E90?

Hey,

I own a 2010 320d that came with the boring standard seats and I want to swap them out for the nicer sports seats with the extendable thigh support. The trouble is I'm finding it difficult to find the exact 3 Series seats that I'm looking for, but E87 1 Series sports seats are far more common.

I've seen mixed opinions on whether or not they're the same. I even read that since the 3 Series has front seats with active head restraints that pop forward in an impact (and the 1 Series doesn't) that it will throw fault codes even if the 1 Series seats fit perfectly.

Has anybody else done this? What do you advise?

Thanks!

I think you would have to get them coded in either way. But I have never done a seat swap in a e9x so I can not tell you for sure

I did a sport seat swap for my 2011 E90 328i. Depending on your car, the pre LCI (2006-2008) seats are different from the LCI (2009-2011). There is an extra plug for the active head restraint from the LCI cars that the pre LCI seats don't have.

For the process, here is what you need to do:

Your problem is putting Coupe seats into your Sedan.

Thanks for the replies!

I decided against putting 1 Series seats in my car. I'm going to wait until I find sports seats from a junk E90 LCI. I'll have to bare the base seats until then, but I really want them to be compatible (active headrests and all).

You definitely want to do the swap ASAP. I waited 5 years before doing so and it's a completely different driving experience with the sport seat. I wish I had done it way earlier.
