DVD disc compatible with CIC

Hi everyone,

I burned a DVD with music videos for my CIC system, but the disc isn't recognized.
I tried with a DVD I bought some time ago and it worked well, so the disc reader must be working.

Perhaps I didn't burn the right kind of disc or used wrong settings?
I think it's a DVD+RW, I burned it with DevedeNG as a video DVD (eg: VIDEO_TS dir).

Can anyone point out the kind of disc(s) recognized by the reader? DVD-R? DVD+R? Should I finalize the disc or not?

Thanks!

Attached is a CIC Technical Training document which may be useful.

From page 21...
Optical Drive (CD/DVD Player)
The Car Information Computer is equipped with a DVD-ROM player. The optical drive is used for playing audio and video media.

This drive makes it possible to play the following media file formats:
  • Audio CDs (CD Digital Audio)
  • Audio CD-ROM with MP3, WMA or AAC files
  • DVD Audio (only stereo track if contained on the data medium)
  • Audio DVD-ROM with MP3, WMA or AAC files
  • Video DVD
From page 40 (re: copying data to HDD)...
Copying Data via the CD/DVD Drive
Self-recorded CD/DVD ROMs with audio files in MP3, WMA or AAC (M4A) format can be read, copied and stored using the DVD player (drive).

All CD/DVD formats (from CD-R to DVD Double Layer) are supported, except for CD-RAM and DVD-RAM.

Thanks bcoz , this is exactly what I needed

I was able to get a DVD+RW disc to play correctly, my next step is to try a DVD+R DL disc.

I also found this on page 22:

The HDD (hard disk drive) also provides data storage option for the three languages of the voice recognition system.
Yet this was written in 2008. Did bimmers have voice recognition back then? My car is from 2010 and it does have a button that seems to be for voice recognition, but it doesn't do anything, what am I missing? Do I need to install a combox or something else?

Yes, they had a basic voice activation system that was optional (usually bundled with Professional Navigation inc. 8.8" Monitor and Hard Drive).

Refer to link below for a list of iDrive Voice Commands...

Voice activation can also be used for a phone in hands-free mode (another option).

The above info relates specifically to CIC Nav systems which replaced the older CCC systems.

CIC is a hard drive based navigation system with updates via USB or DVD. The DVD drive is used mainly for multimedia.

CCC is a DVD based navigation system, and the DVD maps must be inserted into the drive when using Nav. I'm not sure, but I assume that the DVD player can also be used for multimedia when Nav is not running. If that is the case, then the DVD drive should support the common DVD & CD formats.
