No warranty for HPFP?
My HPFP failed recently and I spoke to one of the reps at Life Quality BMW in Brooklyn NY. I'm not sure if this guy has a grudge against me, he really seems so after I filed a complaint against him for ignoring my messages and calls. But he told me that because I modded my car, he can't really help me even when it comes down to HPFP failures.
Any advice or similar occurrences ?

TS, you left out the part you put in your other thread that you took the car in with JB and DCI in the car...of course they will not work on it.
The exhaust...meh, that is debatable, if it is a BMW Performance Exhaust, they certainly can't void the warranty. |

I ask the questions you're afraid to ask.

With an aftermarket intake and a chip (and an exhaust) the dealership should probably refuse warranty service for most (if not all) engine and drivetrain related failures. With those mods, the burden of proof realistically shifts to you to show that the mods did not cause the failure. Your owner's manual (and that little sticky on your windshield (you did read them, right?) both warn you against such mods. Why, an intake alters the air to fuel ratio, the JB also alters the air to fuel ratio and an aftermarket exhaust changes backpressure changing how fuel is being burned. BMW can easily argue that this affected you high pressure fuel pump. Did it? Who knows, but at this point it is up to you to prove that it didn't. |
