JB4 ISSUES

Hi recently purchased a JB4 from some online (E-N55) I have 2011 335ix. I am pretty confident I have installed it correctly. The car starts up fine and no error codes. The issue I am having is that I cant map. The volume down and minus buttons dont do anything. Also, I have tried to attach the JB4 to a laptop and not getting a connection. Is it a bad board or the wrong JB4, I noticed in marker there was something written like F-n55 on the casing.

Would purchasing a new/correct board be my best option?

the board installed says "Burger Motorsport, LLC --N55 Stage 2 Rev 1.0"

...might cut my loses and go for an MHD.

I would send pictures and contact BMS for the best solution. Are you sure it was installed correctly? Do you get a gauge sweep on startup?

I'll give it a shot..

Pop open the case and verify the diode is cut so you can load the latest ISO firmware. Follow these directions:

First try to establish connection with the JB4 via USB

If using Windows go to Control Panel>Device Manager to locate what COM port the JB4 data cable.

Go to your JB4 Inerface>settings>Available Ports and select the correct COM port.

If connected, update the firmware to the latest revision found here for E Series JB4 located on Post#2.

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13189

If you updated successfully, enter default settings per ISO firmware notes.

All PWG N55 boards are the same for E and F series N55 cars. If it says F on the case, most likely it's the wrong firmware loaded. It'll work as long as the correct firmware is loaded.

Hi orteeze,

Thanks for the info, my diode is not cut. I have tried connecting it to a laptop but no luck, failure to communicate with the comm, I tried it on different ports and 2 laptops. Does it need to be a BMS RS232 cable, i just picked one up at best buy..

My guess is that you bought the wrong harness type for the jb4. Sounds like you have an e series n55 and may have gotten the version for the f series car. Definitely send a picture to burger first before spending unnecessary money on trying to fix the board

BMS data USB is not a standard RS232 cable. It requires a 5v TTL leveling cable. Just buy one from BMS. I bet it's got the wrong firmware on the board.

I might have one laying around I could sell you.

Harness between E and F are identical except the CAN cables go to the DME ( I know, there's no DME in there) on E series instead of the OBD2 port on F series.

Ask me how I know

In fact, they were. Shorten the CAN cables and tap at DME and update firmware.. done.
