323i stalls randomly when hot
Very odd behavior.
2009 - 323i - 197,000km runs well for days and then it stalls. I have to wait 30, 40 mins to cool down and then it runs again for a while. I disconnected the MAF sensor and runs for ok (a bit rough and revs up and down 500 - 900) then the same results. The error codes I get are mainly from the ECU 2A38, 2A32, 2A31. P1030, P1014. P1030, P1006 eccentric shaft sensor ? valvetronic shaft sensor? Is this something I can change/repair without too much fuss? Or is this a garage bound repair? I have moderate experience but not an extensive set of tools. Any suggestions? |

How did you deduce that? DME doesn't shut down the engine even if the water pump is dead.
The faults mainly relate to the valvetronic system. You can operate the valvetronic motor manually using a 4mm allen socket (don't crank on the 4mm when you feel the end stop) to assess the stiffness of the mechanism. You will need INPA or ISTA to further narrow your diagnosis unless you have access to a known good valvetronic servomotor to swap in. Be careful removing and installing the motor as it has to be manually wound off the eccentric shaft gear or else it will rocket out under spring force |
