I'm mad because 1 month after cancelling my order for the "old" gauge vent kit they had (after being 1 year on the waiting list B/O) but I like the ati steering column and would rather take a mechanical gauge over an electrical any day. But this kit is really good looking and sleeper.

Good day everyone. Long time no reply. I just got myself out of my now newly old vert and into a F30 335i (see sig for details)

One quick question for you guys: does anyone happen to know whether the F30s use the same ABS-based TPM system as the E90s, or has it now changed to a sensor in the valve stem system ?

As I just ordered my winter tire/mag pacakge without said sensors, I am now having some nagging doubts.

Thanks guys; I see some of the old habbits do not change easily, Ken is still not really not modding, and P-Nim is still being his whitty self

lololol welcome back. Almost nobody left with an E90, so that's how you know the real stalwarts. Hehe.

The F30 uses valve stems. ABS ended sometime in the 2009 model year, so you'll need some! Or drive with the light

You sure - apparently the US is abandoning this legal requirement (valve stems) and I read on the F30 post (as well as spoken to a tire dealer in Mtl) that in fact it is ABS based here ?

On the other hand, I did also read what you just said somewhere else, so I be confused

Therefore, let me know if you are sure of this pls, tks

Admittedly talking out of my ass here I know for a fact that E9x's switched to stems in MY09, but your information on the F30 is news to me. It could well be so!

Super, thanks for confirming my confusion. The tire expert told me that if the stems are rubber then there are no valve stems - I am getting the car next week, so now I simply have to stop by the dealership and look at the cars on the floor to see for myself.

Apparently the "market" is going towards ABS-based monitoring systems (cheaper and just as effective).

Take care

Hey there! Welcome back, I see your keyboard is a little rusty

Yes, it took me 5 years to mod the car to the point of 'mildly tuned' compared to the young ones

Congrats on the new car and let me tell you the bad news: You will need 18 inch winter wheels

I beg to disagree! Valve stems are instantaneous while ABS is subject to hitting huge potholes where wheels spin unevenly and throw errors (happened!). Cheaper, though? Agree

Plus the technogeek in me gets a hardon seeing that my FL is at 38 psi while FR is at 36 without getting out of dye car. Why do I need a Suburfortas be able to do that?

Hello Ken. Actually 17 in will do. But the offsets are quite different and thus I do need to change mags

Yes I agree that the sensors are more accurate. But the ABS still does the job of letting one know of a low tire pressure (variance in excess of 20pc I think).

Yeah, that's the thing, never sure whether they actually work Mine never ever gave me any warning, does that mean none of the wheels ever crossed the 20% variance or.........mmmmhhhh!

Would my 17s with 40 offset work? Buy my winters, oh, schucks too late you already bought your set right?

Ken the offset on the F30 is 34 so 40 would really stand out. Yes I did buy some cheapo MSW mags and Blizzaks.

No it won't stick out (if that's what you meant), it would be more recessed into the wheel well, but might not work as it may rub your brake caliper.

Thanks - it was what I meant; I always confuse the effect of higher offset numbers
