e92 trunk / boot does not open with handle or remote

Hi guys!

First post here (so hope it's in the right place).
Created an account, as for the first time ever, was unable to find my specific problem in the forums

The boot release (or trunk, depending on what continent you're on) has suddenly stopped working in my 2008 e92. I always use the remote control to release it, as it's the least effort. It worked fine when I left it in the morning, and found it unresponsive once I came back in the afternoon which makes it really strange.

The symptoms are: the boot will not open / release either through the remote key or the handle. The only way to open it is with the physical key. When operating properly, a mechanism in the boot makes a sound as it is being released, but now it is completely silent. All lights / alarm works as it should.

Can anyone point me to where that mechanism is located / is it easily fixed or replaced? Does it have a separate fuse that could cause it to stop working?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am reluctant to approach BMW about something like this...

Sounds like a valet switch. I'm having an issue where my truck will open when i use the push button handle on the trunk when the car is locked it's CA so even with the key out range it will still open and sound the alarm.c

Thanks for getting back to me.

I've dug around the glove compartment, and found a blanking plate where the valet switch should be, so that can't be it. I don't think the European version comes with one. Any other ideas?

Solved! e92 trunk / boot does not open with handle or remote

Just in case anyone stumbles upon this thread, it was the actual boot lid lock / actuator that gave out in my case.

What gave it away that neither the remote nor the handle would release it - only the physical turning of the key. Also, it made no mechanical buzz, as one would expect it to.

Part number is 51247840617, a half hour job, fixed for under £10!
