Fitted carbon splitters to M3 rep bumper
Finally decided to bite the bullet and buy the carbon m3 splitters and try to make them fit. I fitted the fiberglass ones last year that I had wrapped in 3m dinoc but it didn't hold up to winter too well so I wanted to try the real carbon ones.
I was able to trim off a triangle of the underside of these so that I would be able to shape the contour of the outer edge of them with heat. Once they were more flexible I heated them up a little bit with the heat gun on pretty low and shaped them to the bumper. I double sided tape them on and used some metal binder clips to hold them in place for the tape to have a chance to adhere. Then they still needed trimmed by about an inch off of the length. I should have snapped some pics while I was doing this but it was like 95' in my garage and I just wanted to get it over with haha. I also think this technique would work for some of the other lips that are out there. The fitment is pretty good! Could you let us know where you made the cuts themselves? And are t the carbon ones really just a fiberglass material with a carbon weave overlay material over it? Heating up the splitters made them pliable enough to shape them over the bumper? Thanks in advance! |
