ESR Wheels - Opinions?
Hey All!
Looking to get new wheels in Spring and I find myself liking the price point and the styling of ESR wheels. Was just curious if anyone has any thoughts or opinions, positive or negative, on them? Any insight, pics, stories, etc. would be great! Thanks! p.s. right now I'm looking to go the LM replica route (SR05) |

I've been trying to get some feedback on their rotary forged line, the RF1 and RF2. Priced well, but if they're heavy and bend/crack easy... Anyway, there's very little to be found.

Honestly, oem wheels are cast. I’ve seen lots of bent oem Bmw wheels, and cracked ones. Any decent cast wheel will be just as good as an oem cast wheel. Some people might disagree, but unless you can give me some scientific evidence on why or why not that’s true, I say a cast wheel is a cast wheel (obviously different manufacturing processes for cast wheels exist, but one low pressure cast wheel vs another, all the same in my eyes)
Long story short, go for it |

The problem I have is that every picture they have of the styles I like have a nice concavity. I don't think I can get that with a 2010 so I'm nervous I won't get what I'm looking at.
I agree with the above though. Different manufacturing, but cast is cast. |

How would ESR compare to other brands? Is it considered a high-end or more low-end? I need something that can be aesthetically nice but also sturdy because of the trashy roads I have up here in Canada.
Thanks for any insight. |

Et 35 on 9.5 can have pretty good concavity, and isn’t pushing fitment at all on an lci

Sounds like some pretty favorable wheels. Honestly, with their price point I'd put them in the budget range. Seems like a solid product though.

A budget wheel mostly for looks/fitment. I love how they look, considering dropping my apexs for a set of these

I have ESR SR05's in 18x8.5 up front and 18x9.5 in the rear. I love the wheels, they held up great to multiple autocross events on a rough track, and two years on pothole filled roads in Southern Ohio.
THE NEGATIVES: -I am not a huge fan of having a big lip up front, but they don't offer a small enough lip for a front wheel, so I had to live with it. -The finish is great initially, but even washing the wheels all winter, I have some pitting starting to form, probably going to have to pull the wheels and have them refinished eventually. -They are heavy, definitely not the lightest wheels, not well suited for a track car, or for performance. Can any of you guys running them comment on weight? I can't get a reply/answer from ESR. I know they're on the heavy side, wondering just how heavy...and really interested in their rotary forged line.

I am always up for meeting up with another BMW'er, you ever come up towards Wilmington? I developed a pretty nasty oil leak, guessing its the drain plug leaking (oil change place re-used it for some stupid reason, and I just found out), so I have to drive over there tomorrow to get it fixed. I am going on two years now on the wheels. The first year was completely perfect, however, its becoming increasingly obvious that the brake dust is really killing the finish. I don't have a firm weight, but I am guessing 28-32 lbs on the standard SR05's. The rotary forged wheels are going to be quite a bit lighter, and a bit stronger, but I don't know the weight for sure. |
