2008 328i vanos solenoid burned?
I decided to take out my vanos solenoids today due to the car rough idling. There looks like something is caked on the side of it and it will not come off. I assume it is burned, it kind of looks burned right? The other solenoid has a similar spot but not nearly as big. Btw the car is throwing no codes.

Completely normal, and worn VANOS solenoids don't cause rough idle. Check shadow codes, watch fuel trims, smoke test, look at cylinder smoothness.

I know a lot of things can be causing the rough idle. Youtube videos claim that for a rough idle it's good to clean the vanos solenoids first. They say it fixed it for them most of the time.

Well if you saw it on YouTube, then it must be true.
Cleaning parts at random is much better than replacing parts at random, but it's a far cry from diagnosis. |
