Alpina D3.

As you may know I have been looking into the 325d for my next car which will be some time in 2nd half for 2008.

However it seem that Alpina are comming out with a new D3 that will most likely be based on 323d (when it arrives in 2008). It should be good for around 240bhp which is plenty for me and should also give better MPG than the 325d.

Does any of you have any info on the new D3?

Nope although I've been for a drive in the current D3. I did think about it, but found that the body kit was a bit too much, the alloys were huge and to be honest I thought the changes to the dash made it look a bit cheap. A bit brash for my tastes, 240bhp would be nice though

I still haven't seen anthiny confirming there will be a 323D, anyone seen something?

I think that the best sign we have that a 323d will be launched next year is that Alpina will start making a new D3

Hi,

Production has ceased for the current D3 but that doesnt mean too much. It may simply be a fact that they are concentrating on the B3. Either that or they will end up using the current 320d engine with stop/start and so on. But that doesnt rule out the D3 to be based on 323d but unlikely to be in 2008. Who knows? D3s is something I'd love to have as the D3 has proven to me to be better than the msport 4 pot diesels by far in my opinion.

A D3 based on the 123D engine would be amazing, as long as nav and auto could be specc'd. It was these reasons that I did not buy the last one

My dealer did say that they had stopped making the D3, but he explained that they make each model in turn, so they make a bunch of D3's, stop, then make a bunch of the next model and so on. The engine from the 123D would be a perfect choice for them, as the D3 at 200hp is not that far removed from the new 320D

I read somewhere that the new D3 will be launched in 11/08. It could of course be based on the new 177hk single turbo 2.0l engine but since I am pretty certain that BMW will use the 2.0l biturbo in the MY09 3-series a 210-215hk D3 would make no realy sense I think.

I think the same, come the facelift in Sept 08 the 325 will get dropped and we'll have a 323D to replace it, which would then be the basis for a new D3. That said, will the 323D be a tunable as the old 2.0D was?

I think it will because they have only added around 27hp compared to the single turbo version. Only around a 15% increase. The increase from 330d to 335d is around 23%.

So even though a 6 cylinder engine will have more advantages of a biturbo setup I think a 35-40% increase of power over the 320d should be possible given the fact that the second turbo in the 323d is most likely considerably larger than the single turbo in the 320d.

We will see how the 123d performes after a chip.
