German ebay - sourcing used alloys/tyres
Hi - I am thinking of using Germany ebay to source alloys and tyres in preparation for next winter.
I know there will be courier costs to pay but the supply in germany is huge and more people use winter tyres too. For example at the moment there is a buy-it-now of EURO 799 for 17" alloys/rf winter tyres http://cgi.ebay.de/17-Zoll-Winterrad...item230e1386c2 BMW 3 Series E90 E91 E92 E93 Style 199 inch alloy rims 7,5 x17 offset 34 205/50 R17 89H Good-Year Ultra Grip GW3 RSC & Run Flat Winter Tires Product Description: Rim and tires are in very good condition |

I know a lot of people who use German ebay to buy car parts, and they always seem to do well. I'm not sure how easy it is to search for things in another language, and then complete the transaction - but that's a pretty good price for a wheel and tyre set, even with the crappy £/Euro exchange rate.

I have ordered stuff at several times from german ebay and always use english. Ask a question (example is the shipping possible to UK) in english from the seller before the bid, if he/she answer in english there is no problem.

There may not be a glut of people selling their winter sets soon or into the autumn but there will be some people who sell their cars before next winter and therefore have a set to sell. I would tend to hold off to see what turns up. I for one might be in that category as may well sell the car before next winter and have a set of 17" BMW alloys I bought this year and Goodyear winter tyres.

I may have been unlucky but both the sets of BMW alloys I have bought on (UK) Ebay have been cosmetically worse than I expected (people's definitions of "slight kerbing damage" being variable) and one set had a cracked wheel, and one set a buckled one. So get plenty of high res photos and ask if they are cracked or buckled!

When buying my 17s I ended up only looking at new or newly refurbed wheels as people do often understate damage to wheels. I also thought about having wheels with kerbing on my car and i know they are only for winter but still wanted to keep it immaculate. Plenty of pics is the key.
