Question Engagement Ring -Brilliant cut platinum, 1.14.ct, VS1 F color? Good Deal?

First point: I know F-all about rings and diamonds..

I am planning to propose to my fiancee this Friday.

My budget was around 2-2.5k. However a guy i know on Jewelrey Quarter in Bham can sort me out the above ring for all inclusive around £2,650 - GIA certified.

Having shopped around it looks like a pretty good deal.

On the off chance i went into some other merchants and was quoted way way above the quote. On some occasions i actually felt uncomfortable..

Anyone have any advice on buying a ring? I looked at the 1.14 ct stone and its all sparkly. Very sparkly...

That is a pretty good quality diamond!

And sounds like a great deal to me.. however, I purchased my fiance's engagement ring for around 5 time's that (from Tiffanys) and the diamond you describe sounds higher quality and slightly bigger.

5 times!!! wow..

The guy who owns the jewellers is a friend of a friend. And when i went in he was extremely helpful.

I think he knows i would recommend a lot of people to his place.

Truth be known, i put a deposit on the diamond yesterday. He was telling me he sells at least 200 diamonds a week in his shop.

Credit crunch? what credit crunch. Its an expensive business!

Sound lovely, lucky girl

Just make sure she wants a diamond engagment ring first and not perhaps a different stone

Sounds like a good deal, i brought my girlfriends ring from Tiffany's in New York when we where getting $2 to the £1 in 2007 - which made it alot better value for money than buying it from Tiffany's in the uk.

Hope your girlfriend doesn't come on this forum, might spoil the suprise

Hi Porscha..

Ha! I did not even think of that you know...

Will see. She is a keeper, truth be told she would have been happy with a jelly ring!

But its for life etc. Its a lot of expenditure for me in the current climate. But she is worth it

that's pretty good deal. what's the cut grade? triple X (excellent, excellent, excellent) is the best. but the other specs are pretty good for that price.

"Shes a keeper" hehe thats what you say about nice motorcars

I'm sure she will LOVE IT

If I ever find a man insane enough to put up with me, I'd like a massive emerald or ruby engagement ring, not diamond but I imagine if she was that much against it you'd kinda know Good luck

I did the same and proposed to my now wife in a horse drawn carriage going round central park. Amazing service at Tiffany's, taken off to a private room to view the rings and after several glasses of champagne I made my purchase!
Much better than the service we received at Tiffanys UK when we were looking for our wedding rings.

Sounds very nice Donster, go for it she'll love it.

Sounds like a very good deal to me, I paid more for a stone half the size not too long ago. although the stone I got was Flawless and colour D, I doubt many people would even notice.

Hope the proposal goes well.

Well I bought my wifes engagement ring from "Platinum Jewellers" on Vyse Street in the Jewellery quarter in Brum. They're a great company to deal with and we've been back since for other bits and pieces. The engagement ring is just over a carat and is round brilliant cut, VVS2 and an "I" in colour, on a platinum band. Was about the same price as yours, so looks like a pretty good deal to be honest.

There are so many different colours, inclusion values etc that it makes choosing difficult sometimes.

Your right, the service you get from Tiffany's in New York is amazing! I sorted it before we went and they delivered it to our hotel in secret. After i had proposed at the top of the Empire State Building that night we went to the store the next day to meet the guy i had being speaking to for months and got the champagne treatment, funny thing was he was born in Wolverhampton!

BMW should go to Tiffany's in New York to see proper customer service!

We got engaged in Cyprus on the spur 5 years ago,

Not planned, bought a ring for a grand locally, definitely not the best diamond, but who cares?

Don't get too carried away with all this 'must have' BS, you'll have more things to worry about in the future than the size of the engagement ring.

Good Luck on Friday!
