Alpina B3 GTS beats M3 GTS around Nurburgring
I was at Synters last week and got talking on of the sales staff and he mentioned that they have something I might be interested in! Oh yes what would that be, what about a Alpina B3s GTS! So I have a good look at the car and what a car! the guy mentioned that this car went round Nurburgring faster than a M3 GTS. I was very surprised to hear however here is the proof.
Alpina B3s GTS did the Nurburgring in 7:41, a M3 GTS did the Nurburgring in 7:48 not much diffrence in timing, but there is a large diffrence in price! It also looks like a gash modded car rather than anything even slightly exotic.
It lacks the flared wheel arches and power bulge of the M3 and ofcourse the NA V8. That's a lot of money to spend on a 335i! |

M3 GTS = future classic and will be highly sought after
Alpina GTS = Warmed up 335i. The depreciation would be catastrophic on the Alpina. Within 3 years I'd say worth less than £20k.

I'm not saying I'd splash out on one of these if I had the money but I always think there's a certain something about the Alpina cars. Something that dare I say the M cars lack.

Impressive times from both cars. One has a proper N/A V8 and the other relies on a hairdryer to get additional performance. I know which one I'd prefer.
However, and it's a big HOWEVER, neither has a "proper" gearbox. Shame that BMW and Alpina both choose to take away the driver interaction that was so prevalent in the E30, 36, 39 and 46. |

Have to agree with a lot of what's been said already. While I'm usually quite a fan of Alpina stuff, trying to compare a warmed over 335i (with crap bodykit) with an M3 GTS is a step too far.

You can modify your own 335i to that level for much less money.

^^ you can probably lose a lot more weight than that too. Doesn't need rear seats really. Smaller battery.
I wonder how many laps the Alpina can do before it goes into limp mode :P |

I'm about to get flogged but i like it apart from the rear wing which has come straight out of Halfords.
They say only 99 will be built, If that’s the case then it will become a classic that stay's under a warm blanket and brought out to show off once a year. If i had the cash to burn i would have it in my garage under a warm blanket |

Never quite get the whole Alpina thing. Seems that you're paying lots of money for what is essentially a souped up car, that the "Halfords brigade" get chastised for on here...
£72K for a remapped [old engined] 335i? Madness. |

I know people on here have them but for me I don't get the appeal. On the tuning and chassis side they do a good job but visually I think they are hideous. AC Schnitzer do a far better job. |

Depends what you get done, some of their stuff yes. But a few subtle things have made plenty of BMW's; look better. E46 wing mirrors for example.

But the Alpina Classic Alloys have always been up there with the best of them.
