E92 335i 6MT curb weight surprised me!
This ain't no topic that's interesting enough for anyone, but I know some of you are working on your car's weight and improving performance. Also a lot of weight guessing is on the forums but not a lot of hard numbers so here it goes. If you don't want to read everything, the numbers are in bold below.
So I always seek the nice middle way between power and weight in a vehicle. It has to have enough comfort to drive on the road and to and from the track. But unnecessary stuff is not needed and many would be surprised what 200lbs extra do to a car. Especially on a track where braking gets harder and rotational weight works against you. I always thought my car being a manual E92 without sunroof and without navigation being on of the lightest specs an E9x 335i would get, after weighing it on a junkyard car scale I was still surprised! So my car has following different to stock, for those of you who want to compare, the rest is full sport interior with leather electric seat and all OEM trim installed. BMS cowl filter with stock cowl delete Stock airbox with K&N drop-in Airscoops Catless downpipes in OEM housing Stock catback exhaust Single mass flywheel+550i clutch MTC ebay 5" intercooler (heavier than stock) Full Lithium LifePO battery (reason for weighing, was only 1,5kgs!) Apex EC-7 19" satin black wheels with 235 front and 265 rear OS Giken Superlock LSD (heavier than stock) M3 style front bumper So now the numbers: Weighed 1648 kg at the scales with me in it, with all the junk in the car like cables, phone holder, instruction manual, tyre pressure gauge, 1 big and 1 small child seat and a bit more than half tank of gas. So calculating my own weight together all the junk from above on my home scale, combined with around 35liters (24,5kg) of petrol that was left in the tank I arrive at the number of: 1494kg or 3294lbs! Personally I think that's not bad at all seeing more modern performance cars like C63, E63, M5, M8, RS6 around 2000kg or even more. That also explains why I can kill a lot of times some so called "supercars" on the road, track and autobahn. Edit: just found out it weighs exactly the same as Porsche 991.2 GT3, weighed by German car magazine Sportauto Supertest. I don't want to go alot further than that, just 2 race seats and rear seat/trunk delete when going to the track. Also looking at VRSF 3.5" exhaust but a bit scared it's gonna be too loud. When they arrive I will also compare them and post here...

You didn't happen to back the rear axle on to the scale and drive the front axle onto the scale separately to get an exact weight per axle, ie distribution. Did you?
There's only so much weight I'm willing to sacrifice, but I would be more inclined to know where I sit in terms of distribution. |

I'm looking to get just around 1395kg (3080lbs) as a target without removing only from the back, Think it's possible with 2 lightweight raceseats and 3.5" catless exhaust with single muffler. Then see what's necessary to remove from trim and rear seats... |

Race seats came in today, weighed 10,5kg incl mounts. Stock leather electric sport seat 30kg. So 60 minus 21kg is 39 kg weight savings or around 86lbs! Also the floor mounted subwoofer are 2kg each and unnecessary for my so 43kg (95lbs) savings. That's almost 100lbs with just installing race seats for trackday/driftday.

So after some very rainy weeks I installed the race seats and removed only the back seats and some trunk liner. Went together with a friend as passenger for a test drive and did a high 8 seconds on a 100-200 kph (similar to 60-130 mph) run on just FBO and pump gas 95 RON. That's quick and not even and agressive custom map or E map. Will go back to the scales in a few days, I think it's around 3000lbs with just this simple weight reductions. After that will do the test with just me in it and the V5 E40 map.

Well for anyone interested, went back to the scales today and the car now weighs 3070 lbs. It feels amazing, more nimble, better braking and better acceleration times overall. It still is daily driveable with all creature comforts, just the exhaust is a bit louder now from inside. Installed a remote controller for the oem exhaust valve.

I have a loaded 335i e92 Mfactory Twin Disc, 30 pound battery, and carbon hood.
Exactly 3500 pounds on a truck scale with a 1/4 tank of gas and no one in the car. Apex ARC8 Wheels I don't see how your car is 200 pound is lighter. |

Most important: no sunroof, no satnav, manual transmission, smfw, catless, apex lightweight wheels, no cowl, partly gutted interior in the back with rear seat delete and 2 lightweight fixed racing seats, lithium 3 lbs battery, almost no fuel in tank, no other junk in the car,... Probably forgot something
