M1 isn't liked on BITOG, nor does it do well with NOACC 4 ball wear test. Shit oil for the price IMO. Rotella T6 is good and cheap, but shear thins after 5k or so. It's rich in ZDDP, which is great for wear but bad for cats if you burn oil...castrol edge 5w40, T6, liquimolly, and pentosin are the only brands I'd throw in Hi-Po engine.

You should be using the A3 Euro, it's the same price (or cheaper on Amazon Prime, $22 shipped).

Yes, I would gamble with the life of my engine to save a couple bucks. NO WAY.

I'm currently running the RLI 85343 Bio SynXtra HD Plus Super High Performance 5w40. If not that, I'd run Amsoil. Blackstone samples report lower than average wear for the platform while I was running the car very hard. At 5k miles the oil still had a lot of life left in it.

After looking through more than a few UOAs though, there wasn't much difference between RLI and T6 in most use cases...given that, it's tough to justify the extra cost when you can get a jug of the Rotella for ~$13/gallon after rebate. |

well, its better than motul and liquimoly. At least by everything I see - as the test shows.
I agree its not as inexpensive as Amazon.. but Im not low bucking it that much.

Everyone else pretty much already said it but you can find better oil for the same price or cheaper so why bother? I would absolutely not run it in my N54, even if Rotella T6 wasn't around for the price I would still probably run Motul Xcess or Liquid Moly.
Even on my girlfriends Rav4 I've found it's cheaper to buy Supertech oil (Walmart brand) for $15 for 5 quarts. AmazonBasics oil is $23. |

Like I said, I dont need to low buck it. FCP has petrosin for about 50$ with filter and my IS only has 45K miles and doesnt use oil - I wanna keep it that way.
I am also looking for more wear protection specifically bc I had some high iron results in oil analysis. I wasnt following this thread until recently and also relatively recently came across the oil test of the petrosin. And as far as use in a toyota, many of them have small oil capacity. Because of this the oil runs much hotter and it can bake around the oil rings and cause sticking. I would look for something that had a high flash point. So it kinda of depends on what condition each motor might exhibit.

I ran the Amazon Oil in my Lsx turbo Foxbody. The oil pressure would drop considerably after a few pulls. Never tried it in my N54...but I'm back to Rotella in the Mustang.

In my last two cars M1 0W-40 always tested better than Rotella T6. Rotella T6 was still fine but people hype it up a bit too much. I have run M1 0W-40 for many years on my 335i and it has always tested great and now I run Castrol A3 Euro 0W-40 and it also tests great.
Test your oil and decide what you want but how often you change it is far more important than what you use. I run Castrol because it's $20.00-$25.00 shipped so I can change it anytime I get bored and feel like doing it and sometimes that is as soon as every 2000 miles. I just rolled 110,000 miles on my 2011 E90 N55 and a recent compression test resulted in an average of 210psi across all 6 cylinders. I would not hesitate to use the Amazon Basics 0W-40.
