2008 335i bluetooth not working!?

Hello all,

I recently had a customer come into my dealership with his 2008 335i where his Bluetooth randomly stopped working one day.

His phone is connected and the Audio and Telephone 1 was selected after we unpaired and repaired it. Under the multimedia tab everything (including Bluetooth device) is greyed out EXCEPT for aux even though nothing is plugged into it...

I am at a lost as I have never seen this sort of issue before, we have tried all the common troubleshooting problems i.e resetting idrive, deleting phone from car, deleting car from phone, trying to connect different phones and the problem is still occurring.

Is there a fuse that is part of the Bluetooth system that could of possibly been blown?

Are you a BMW dealership?
If you are you should be familiar with the hardware.
Do you have BMW diagnostics?
If not you should get some or you will have no hope of working
on these cars.

Bimmergeeks.net cable and basic downloads set up on a PC gives
factory level diagnostics (Ista D ) and coding software.
There is a fuse diagram on the rear panel of the glove compartment.
see location in Entertainment PDF.
If these modules are replaced they must be programed for features and
to match the VIN number.

Bluetooth and USB comes from modules in the Trunk in BMW's of this era.

2006 TCU module provides bluetooth phone and bmw SOS
2007 ulf or mulf module added for usb drive. can have a tcu to
2008 Can have a TCU and Mulf module stacked and in the trunk for both

Tcu telephone control unit it is essentially a cell phone with the bluetooth and SOS
in it . SOS is similar to GM onstar but no longer supported because its 2g.
But the bluetooth phone connection for calls should still work.

Well, Ctuna, thank you for your reply, but I am a product specialist in the sales side and I do not have access to any diag tools, its also a little unrealistic for someone to know every little in and out of any given BMW model.

Then you should refer it to some one in your organization that
understands the tech on these cars.

Every time I go onto a car lot I know I know more about a car than
the salesman does doesn't matter what the brand.
And this is on the brand new models that they are currently selling.
And there is more to know than ever.

The bluetooth units in the trunk are known to die around this age.

My 07 330i unit has just died.

Best to pick up one off eBay in all honesty, far cheaper for the customer.

Maybe tell him to sign up here for advice on part numbers etc. That was he can't come back to you.

Over in the UK you can pick them up used for around $50 or less, takes 10 minutes to swap it over.
