Steering wheel vibrates at 100km
My steering wheel vibrates at 100km on the highway but goes away if I go faster than that not sure what the problem could be. My wheels are definitely balanced. I just picked it up from bmw from the certified preowned. Unfortunately, I've past my 30 day warranty on it.
Also not sure if this is related to the issue but my steering wheel also makes a weird click sound when I turn it to the left slightly at idle. I found some threads on this issue but no exact answer. If anyone knows what's the problem please help!

I had this issue with mine. A set of new hub centric rings that fit properly did the trick.
My wheel guy almost sold me a new set of wheels and fixed the issue for about 6 months now for $20. https://www.amazon.com/Centric-Rings...bcentric+rings |

Wheel out of balance, slight wheel bend...
Perhaps you can swap front to rear to help isolate the issue and then take it to a shop?

That's the high mileage based vibration pkg......
Kidding, start with balancing wheels and looking for bulges in tires or even bent rim then if that's not it I would get the chassis looked at for worn bushings, also check steering linkages and rack and if that doesn't solve your problems...check your local BMW specialist for helps! GL op |

Regardless, they don't fix things that they know will fail soon on CPO cars, because they can have you come back for warranty work and charge you $50 deductible. So with that said if you got a few more things that you can get fixed under the same claim it would be better, because then you will pay the deductible only once. Now onto your problem: Issue is most likely a worn out thrust arm bushing, or wheel balance is off. Number 10 in diagram. |

I've owned 3 e92's now and all 3 I had to chase down vibration issues. First one was RFT that were nearing end of life. 2nd had a cracked rim and RFT that were wearing down.
When i bought my current e92 the steer wheel would shake like crazy at 70+MPH. I swapped out the tires to new Non-RFT. 1) I would check wheels for cracks or bends. I've found it best to take off the wheel and look at the inner barrel. You'll miss it if you don't take the wheels off the car. The outside of the rim is supported by the spokes. The inside is not and is more prone to cracks/bends. 2) I would start with the simplest thing which is the wheel balance. And note that not all balance shops are equal. I would post on your region forum or ask around for reputable balance shops. Please do the road force balance! I think balancing tires might be somewhat of an art and some people just don't give a shit. You do not need 10 weights to balance a wheel. If you still have run flats, ditch those as well. From my experience the non-RFT balance out a lot easier. My vibration issues all went away with Non-RFT and a good balance shop. I'm at 150k miles on my car and it's buttery smooth at 70+ MPH now. Good luck. Last edited by validated335; 06-21-2017 at 02:43 PM.. |

They said they had two techs look at the steering wheel clicking issue and said that it's normal overtime. They had an x5 and 3 serious themselves and said they have the same problem but there's nothing really they could do. The tech with the x5 changed some shaft thinking it'll help but nothing happened.
They also said it shouldn't be a safety issue so I guess I'll just settle with it. They didn't charge me either for the diagnosis.

Trust me the dealer will be out to get as much money out of you as possible. I took my old 09 335i in at 95k mi for steering wheel vibrations for a rebalance. They then came back at me saying it's my driveshaft. Walked out and had the M3 front control arms installed and issue was fixed. My bushings were cracked and leaking and the car had no vibrations afterwards.

Like everyone is saying, do your own work and trouble shooting. Eveyone here on the forum is here to help if you're willing to put in the work. That's if you wanna save money.
If money is not an issue, go to an independent shop. They will be 1000x more helpful than the dealer. I've had many occasions where the dealer lead me in all the wrong directions replacing a bunch of unrelated parts. Let us know how it goes. |

I've having the same issue lately actually, tires balanced, alignment done, wheels aren't bent, tires re-balanced etc. But I'm getting a creaking when turning and occasionally on bumps and I sprayed wd40 on the control arm bushings, and it quieted it down. Looks like some M3 arms are needed for me

A lot of front end parts are non grease able, so once the wear, it's replacement. Other things to look for are cv joints if your awd, tie rods and wheel bearings, these all wear under 100k. Most banging can be associated with bushings and ball joints. Wheels will need balancing as the tire wears, no there is no such thing as a lifetime tire balance, when done, a road force is the top balancer.
