Cleaning Valves

Hey guys, quick question. Im cleaning my valves today by hand manually. My car is an automatic. How to I close valves that are open to scrub them out? I am assuming I just turn the engine over manually?

Thanks for your time!

It went well. took me about 3 hours. soaked 4 valves and scrubbed. shotgun brushes and a vacuum pump. only bad part was I broke one of the vacuum line nipples when putting manifold back on. Part will be on tomorrow. I ended up using throttle body cleaner from Autozone.

Honestly, next time invest into a walnut blasting kit. You can price one out with individual pieces for around $180 - $200. You will get them much cleaner with less effort, and you can walnut blast anytime you want.

After doing it this way, I couldn't agree more. Next time definently going that route.

Bav Auto has a kit. I think ECS tuning does too. They are north of $225.00

You can get the red walnut compressor on Amazon for cheap. It's a 10gallon deal. The wand & adapter can be purchased almost anywhere. Just take the part numbers and put "BMW" before the part number in google, and you'll be surprised on how cheap you can get them.

Walnut Media is easily had on EBay. You just need 20# of 18/40.
