AmazonBasics Oil in n54?

I’ve used AmazonBasics oil in a couple of my American and Japanese cars before, but has anyone used it in the n54? From tests I’ve seen and from my own use it’s a pretty good oil, especially for $25/5quarts... would you guys recommend amazon oil in the n54? I don’t see why I shouldn’t use it.

Give me your opinions!

I mean it's acceptable oil. Although I'm pretty sure it does not have LL01 certification but anyways half people say you need it half say you don't. I personally go by the certification. I wouldn't put it also because it's price point is basically the same as name brand oils like Castrol or Pennzoil. Costs me about 35$ Canadian for 5 liters on sale (it's always on sale every X month) . Translates to 26$ Usd for 5.28 quarts

Might as well use a proven oil for cheaper. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Castrol-E...AaAj15EALw_wcB

I've looked at that Amazon oil......but for the few bucks you save, why not just run a name brand oil that's been tried and tested over time (Mobil1, Rotella T6, Castrol, etc). You can get Mobil1 for $25 5/qts..and Rotella T6 is around $19 for 5qts, Castrol for $22 5/qts.

Last time I did oil pretty sure it was buy one get one 50% off on 4 or 5 quarts of castrol at Autozone. I'd trust that over amazon oil.

If price is the driving force... Buy a quality oil change kit from FCP Euro and never pay out of pocket again for as long as you own the vehicle.

Wait can you eloboate on this? Sounds like your saying FCP does their lifetime warranty for their oil kits??

Assuming you would have to keep you oil canisters filter and ship them back to get the refund :

Yep...I've heard they will warranty out oil also. I'm sure you have to pay shipping both ways. Not sure it's worth the trouble to re-bottle all of your old oil and pay to ship it back.

Yes they do it even for their oil kits. You fill up the new containers with the oil you drained and ship it back (pay for shipping both ways tho)

As much as I love their lifetime warranty, which I've used in the past for things like end links, etc. that failed way sooner than is to be reasonably expected, sending back used oil, brake fluid, oil filters, etc. just seems so wasteful.

I'd prefer to have as little impact as possible on a great companies bottom line in hopes that it helps them to stick around for as long as possible...just me though.

I wouldn’t use it for the sole reason that I hate amazon and I’d rather give my money to another company. On top of that, I get mobil1 from Walmart for the same price.

That being said, it’s probably just as good of an oil. Mobil1 isn’t ll01 certified anymore either and any oil sold in the states has to meet many, many requirements so it’s really probably just as good as any oil for a comparable price. Use whatever you like, change it often, and enjoy your n54.

The things people do to try and save money - would not recommend putting any old oil in this engine. When I switched to motul from bmw oil it resulted in oil temps staying a bit colder, and taking longer to hit 240f as well. I would recommend it, or any of the reputable brands that make a true synthetic like redline, liquimoly, etc. that also have the proper cert. in the past, certain grades of Mobil 1 synthetic oil were not actually true synthetic, so just get the right stuff.

Not that I'm doubting you.....but unless you have some hard data including engine load, rpm, ambient temps, intake temps, ect, ect........it's hard to really say with confidence that your choice in oil would affect those things.

You're saying the main component responsible for oil temperature shouldn't have an affect on it?

I can tell you definitively that going between Castrol, Rotella and Mobil 1 all produce different oil temp reaction, and Rotella runs hottest, Castrol runs coolest for me without a sport oil cooler.

If you pay attention to your temperatures and have the same drive routine, its not hard to see a difference.
