Like I said, I ran stock, alpina and xhp. There is no comparison and yes it can absolutely shift faster. I plan on doing a back to back dragy pass first with this tune and then xhp flashed on the same day to get an exact comparison.

But without that I can absolutely guarantee you will make your car faster to the 1/4 with this file, so if you are chasing tenths. I'd start here.

Also, are you stock turbo? If so a 7k shift point is killing your times.
Near Toronto...so maybe too far. But yeah if you could do a back to run with/without that would be good. In the video you car does seem to shift faster than mine. What's the approx cost for this file? I'm on stage 1 billet with in/outlets and they hold 20psi @ 7K no problem on the XI.

I believe Rod is charging $150 for the tunes right now. And he will work with you on dialing it in for your setup for there.

And keep in mind with the video. The tach lies, it's too slow to show exactly what you can feel. So even with the video, it's hard to show what's actually going on.

What stage 1 do you have? RB? Sounds like a decent option, I'd love to move my useable power up another 1000rpm.

Holy Shit.....

dRew is not exaggerating.

If xHP made your car feel like a freight train - This tune feels like a fighter jet afterburner.

The power just keeps coming through the shift.
There is no pause.
There are no boost spikes.
There are no timing drops.

Everything hits target and stays there.

The revs stay high during the shifts, so it does kind of sound like it's slipping.....but the momentum is continuous and keeps going forward with no letup.

dRew's description of it feeling like a CVT transmission describes it well. The car just moves forward and stays moving forward during each shift.

No jerking, no thump or slam of gears, no pause in power delivery at all.

It's unlike anything I have ever experienced before.

The tach does lie.....the shift is as fast as snapping your fingers.

Yes.....time will tell.

But what leaves an impression with me is that Rod is concerned about tranny health.....so much so that he programs the shift strategy for the 4-5 and 5-6 shifts differently than 1-2-3-4 because he says that 5th and 6th cannot handle the higher loads and line pressures reliably.....especially when guys start running above 20 psi.

He does seem to recognize and worry about that there are physical limitations as to how much power these transmission can handle.

Do his tunes keep the transmission from downshifting into 3rd when it senses clutch slip (or some other issue) when it goes into limp mode?

I was going pretty fast on the highway once and when the transmission downshifted.....the TCU sensed something funky and put the transmission into limp mode at around 100mph.....3rd gear, redlining the motor. Stupid feature of the transmission to do that.....good way to pop a motor.

I'd rather have it throw a code if something is out of whack....but not be able to automatically shift the transmission and lock it in any gear it chooses.

Maybe that will be something xHP can add in the future.

I also have been running a custom tune from Rod Sutphin on my 08 335xi. In comparison to XHP OTS maps it's a night/day difference on how the transmission acts and behaves. Your transmission comes to life!! Rod's custom tuning is a game changer for the N54 community. Keep in mind my car has almost has 189k. My car now pulls like a freight train with no power loss. The gears shift smooth as butter! Rod's customer support has been great! He is quick to respond and answer your questions you might have. I can't wait for the drag strip to open up this coming season! I have yet to use my draggy device to record times on the steers, but i plan on doing some data logging in the near future!

All good man he was nice enough to still adjust some stuff on my custom tune map. Great guy I'd recommend him for sure.

Yeah...he goes above and beyond for sure!

I once mentioned that my tranny has shifted a bit harshly from 3-4 in D mode when it is cold at light throttle settings. Nothing to do with this tune at all. It's been doing this since I had the clutch paks replaced a few years back.

He took his own initiative and began sending me updated maps to see if he can get rid of it for me.

Now that's impressive customer service.

He had re worked some of the tune limiters on my custom map he basically tweaked and helped my trans shift better and firmer with his adjustments if that makes sense.

He can make those changes on any unlocked map, I mentioned this exact thing in the OP. My tune is RFP, which is unlocked and he can edit, I believe he is also using RFP.

So far Rod has tuned out about 70% of the shift harshness I had from 3-4 in D mode in only 1 revision.

He just sent me another revision to try which I haven't loaded yet.

Apparently he can fine tune transmission line pressures, fill rates, and gear shift timing in any drive mode and any rpm range.....so he can really zero in on problem areas that vary from car to car.

He seems to be more committed to getting things perfect than I am

Even at lower throttle and rpm settings his tune seems to have more clamping force and applies torque very quickly and directly.

With xHP stage3 - I could feel a pause before the torque got applied and had to feather the throttle into WOT to get the torque to ramp up and lock in.

Nowhere near as much drama with the Sutphin tune. It clamps the clutches and locks in really quickly and more directly.

I've had both, love them. My car runs great with either.

I took his ots stg2 e40 file to 11.88 and custom e50 to 11.61, both with sutphin trans tune
