First dance with an N54
... was lucky enough to be a passenger in Jeef's tuned 135i last night and holy sh*t that car, and the N54 engine with procede is FAST!
I knew it would be a detrimental experience (to my bank account) because now I really really want to upgrade! Only thing is that whilst I'm sure I could afford a second hand 135i (similar value to my E92) I don't know if buying a second hand N54 engine is a smart idea AND I don't like the shape of the 1er as much as the 3er. Which means I'd need to come up with ~$20k to find a similar spec'd and similar condition 335i. My brain is telling me right now to not invest any more money in cars (even though I'm going to spend some $$$ on small mods for my N52) but if a decent priced, good condition 335i (in similar spec to mine) made itself available then I'd be all over it like freckles on a ginger kid. Also, anyone that doesn't have the Procede for their N54 - go get it! |

Without Procede I would have gotten rid of my car ages ago, Nothing against the car/power or drive though like anything it becomes boring after time though with Procede and its constant updates available it makes driving the N54 so much more enjoyable. Keep your eyes open and Im sure a bargain will come along... Cheers!

You put that money in an interest bearing account, and wait for the next gen 1 series, 3 series...or even a 1M. It will be way more than $20k, what about stamp duty? new insurance policy? pick slip?, wheels, tires, Servicing...and we still have not got to mods yet!! you'll be down $30k before you know it.
Dont do something that silly mate after all the time and mods you've done to your car. Your brain is there for you to listen to.

Will PM you details of a mate that is looking to upgrade his e92.
Is tastefully modded and was featured in the hot tuner shootout year before last. Only thing you'd need to do is flash back to stock and procede it.

I keep thinking that more power would be fun, but there's generally enough oomph when driven hard to have fun in corners, and on the straights, you are at licence losing territory quite quickly.
For track work and competition, I can see the benefit but as a daily driver, unless you are financially ready, I'm less sure. And to my mind it's about the whole package, not just performance. For me, I'd rather wait and move into a 1M or E90 M3 when that is obtainable.

na man, I have a "retail" business on the side. So I sell stuff.
but not really. I still have another 4 yrs to keep paying for the car, and if you look back, I haven't had a go at you about this because frankly it would be hypocritical. I do pay for everything to do with the car though so we're not alike there. I just wanted to beat bmroxm5 to it. |

Need to go on Jeefs car once he gets new tyres too. Although as Jeef can confirm, he was comprehensively beaten at a set of lights a couple of weekends ago by a Corolla.
