07 335 112k miles...

1) wastegate problem became upgraded turbos (which I was going to do anyways).
2) Upgraded to HID fogs, but the kit I bought was defective and shorted out my FRM. (I consider this my own mistake).

So, 2 problems. #1 would be an issue to the average person, #2 was my own fault. 112k miles. THAT is reliable!!

LOL dude the RS5's V8 is not your typical NA V8. It's a compact, high revving, and VERY complex engine that was partially developed by Lamborghini. Good luck with that thing in the long run.

Currently have 72k on my E92 335i, it hasn't been too bad. I got it at 42. Only big issue was the water pump at about 63k. Definitely has it's share of annoying things, but overall it's a great car.

The best BMW to date I've owned was an 1987 E30 325 5 speed.... best workmanship in a car... made it to 330k miles with minimal maintenance. I was the second owner. Couldn't have been happier. They just don't build them like that anymore.

wow that's awesome 330k miles... I agree totally. Also I love driving my 335i. It looks good and it drives great when it's not constantly in the shop. I may be open to getting a e92 m3. I gotta read the m3 forum to see what the quirks are. From what I've read and heard from friends it's a pretty reliable car.

This car is for a mechanic LOL. With all the electronics these days all cars have problems, trust me, Porsches even Ferraris. Depends on your luck with what you get. If you don't want to deal with all the shit, buy a stripped down honda civic with no power windows no sun roof, no keyless entry oh ya and a manual transmission so nothing will brake. But you have to remember if shit brakes you pay for it as all other Warranties are shit. BMW Warranty and maintenance is gold and that's what sells their cars. I had multiple issues yes but I got a new bimmer to roll in while they worked on my car and fixed all this crap for $0. You can't beat that!

OP, I feel your pain and I can't say I blame you. My 2007: six new ignition coils, HPFP, OFHG, water pump/thermostat, tranny mechatronic sleeve, battery cable... and several other annoying problems all prior to 100k miles. My previous BMWs never had these kinds of issues:

- 1977 320i 200k+ miles
- 1987 L6 200k+ miles
- 1997 Z3 150k miles

Sounds like you had a lemon. These newer performance cars, whether BMW, Audi, Porsche or whatever, are very complex and prone to expensive repairs. It's the nature of the beast anymore. But every time I get behind the wheel of my 335i, I swear I could care less. It's such a great car. You may experience the same feeling with the RS5. But I doubt it's more reliable.

The Audi's are appealing, but damn, they're complex, difficult to work on chunks of high tech. My friend has a B7 S4 that's he's now worried about. The timing chain guides are plastic and have been failing on many cars. The failure is catastrophic. On that car the timing chains are on the firewall side of the engine, so repairing it is an engine-out proposition. Perhaps you're buying new so take it for what it's worth, but if you're picking up a used one, be careful. Good luck!

I've been fully modded for years.
No problems until 55k replaced the turbos out of pocket, they didn't even blow yet. Oh and a abs sensor ($100) Lol other than that nothing.
My gf had a e90 07 335i, from 30k to 149k I think. Never did anything to it other that valve cover gasket.
My brothers m3 hasn't had a single problem in 2 years. Driven harder than hell.
Dad had a e60 550i. Never had a problem.
I also own a V10 M5. Never had a problem except for recalls repaired for free. (6mt probably help a whole lot in e60 M5s)

Saying people would be retarded to buy a n54/55 is something super stupid to say.

I am pretty much the only one who drives the truck except for my son-in-laws when they borrow it. One of them got a F-150 4X4 Lariat last year which is very nice. I just did the Ranger clutch a few weeks ago...to many people learned to drive stick on it. Rebuilt most of the drive train while I was at it, retirement gives you time to do stuff. It also sees a lot of light off-road when we go out shooting. Can't live in Carolina without a pickup.

The wife drives the X3 most of the time or the Expedition if she has a lot of stuff or people to move. Think the next switch for her will be the X3 to an X5.

The Expedition is like the Ranger, a load carrier & will be around to 6/7 years like its predecessor. It’s the extended length version & gets used a lot in the summer shuttling back & forth to the beach house.

I expect to swap the 335is for an M4 coupe in 2014 if they are released later this year. Would like to avoid the first production models. Will probably keep the 135is 6MT convert for a while like the 2004 330Ci ZHP convert, its a fun car & everybody used it.

Had '03 M3...drove it 90k miles only replacing tires,brakes and oil changes. No problems whatsoever. Just picked up a'10 335i Coupe last week. Crossing my fingers after reading this thread. Good thing I have warranty.

Threads like this make me glad I went for the 328. The 335 was very tempting, and maybe the 2013 model would have been fine, but these problems just seem way too common with 335s.

Makes me wonder if the N20 is going to prove reliable over the long term.

your a smart man. I'm a idiot for buying this car. Just like grandpa up there. Good thing I made a mistake like this when I'm in my 20s and he's a old man making the same mistakes buying this car.
