How many 335i's have HPFP malfuctions? Mine hasn't yet, its at 28k miles. Really don't want it to either, nearest dealership is 2 hrs away

Uhm, this really HPFP scares me away.

I'm waiting until 2012/13 for the new bimmers to drop, but I might have to wait another year after the release..to make sure there are no problems with the new cars.

first thing on monday, call your dealer and tell them about the error. have them check out the fuel pump. its a very common problem on our cars. its so common that the fuel pump has its own warranty of 10years/100k miles. so you're covered.

drive as little as posible. and don't be so hard on the car. you should be fine after that.

07 BMW 335i Cpe, 14k miles, 2 HPFP's in 10 months... Does anybody know if the HPFP has been improved or the same garbage part is just being re-used?

They have released an updated HDP but it does not seem to be making much of a difference.

Think I might have joined the club tonight also. 08 335 xi with 13,000 miles and a full tank of gas. Went into limp mode on the way home. I shut the car off and started it again. After a long crank of 3-5 sec it started up and ran fine with no problems the rest of the way home.... Oh well, I will take it in to the dealer tomorrow...

I think if BMW understood the problem it would be fixed. Some people go through 3 HPFPs in 10k and others don't have a problem at 30k? I expect that the issue involves multiple components in the fuel system and maybe some external factors. So BMW seems to be making mods hoping for a fix but not really understanding the issue or it is possible that they do understand it but technically cannot solve it.

This is not a small issue for BMW Turbos everyone knows about it, I assume they are loosing some % of sales because of it and it erodes customer satisfaction of the owners.

BMW knows exactly what the problem or problems are.
I don't buy the ethanol BS.Other vehicles are out there with no problems with ethanol.
IMO,the problem lies somewhere in the fuel delivery system. If the problem was the pump,Bosch or Seimens engineers would have foeund a fix.
BMW knows what the problem is but the fix would be too costly.
Cheaper to keep replacing the pumps.

July '09 build here

Picked up the car in late August. Got my first long crank at 500 miles and have gotten them intermittently since then. SES light went on two days ago at about 1080 miles, but car still ran fine.

At the dealer now, so we'll see what's up.

I've had similar happen to me 3 of 4 times with 17K miles. I have the Dinan remap...might this be an issue if I bring it in to the dealer?

Chevy and Caddy also use direct injection so I also think if we use common sense, the pump isn't the problem when people go through 2-3 of them in less than a year.

Anyway, I may be joining the club (why in the world did I think my car was ok?), as the car died 2X in the last month. Have an appt. in Nov.

Now I'm worried that I'll get a new copy that may not last as long. My car is a March 2008 build. I've only had it a little more than a year and I'm already at 24k. Not sure if I want to extend the warranty / keep the car once it hits the 50k warranty limit.
I was oblivious/happy go lucky until my car died twice a few weeks ago. I will pay the $3900 to go up to 7/100 (I'm only at 16k so I plan on driving a LOT more in the next 4 years). If the problem were only on '07's I probably would curse myself for getting this car, but since it's on 07-09 and probably 10 I'll grudgingly extend the warranty.

I Have a 08 335i coupe, my second one had a 07 335i for a year. The 07 one had no hpfp problems but did have injectors replaced a couple of times. I bought the 08 car in June 08- may 08 build. Have 51,000 kms on it and had the hpfp replaced last week after about 6 weeks of long cranks and 2 limp modes. Took the dealer 2 days of testing before they could get the codes to replace under waranty. They also updated the cars firmware.

Has anyone noticed poor fuel consumption after haveing the pump replaced?

No, in fact most people who have mentioned it say MPG improves after the new pump.

Better mpg? Just filled up today so will keep an eye on it. Was driving all short distance since I picked it up but still thought the mpg wasn't great. Did notice the car was a lot smoother since the repair - not sure if that's because of the fp or firmware. Also all phone numbers are now last name first and I can't seem to change them around-since the firmware update. Any ideas or will I have to get the dealer to do it?

A new HPFP-type thread will pop up every few days. I know BMW claims that the HPFP issue is isolated to only a very small percentage of their cars...but this is frickin' ridiculous. I know as a members here, we only represent a very small % of 335 owners, but BMW should be ashamed of themselves for NOT finding a permanent fix for this problem. Sure, they have extended the warranty, but that doesn't help you much when your car loses power when you are in the left hand lane on the fwy late night!

Get with it BMW.
