How many menbers actually use winter tire in NYC?
Just wondering how many members live in NYC actually switch to winter tires during winter time.
I know some people drive other car instead of BMW during winter/snow time However,I only have one car and need to drive to school everyday except weekend. wondering if it is necessery to switch my 19" to smaller size winter tire.

i've never changed to winter tires in my 6yrs of driving. i always had all season performance tires on my car, and it does get a little slippery in times, but nyc doesn't have that many big snow storms. if it's a blizzard, your classes would be cancelled anyway, so no need to drive. i'd just stick w/ ur 19s and drive w/ more caution.

Since I've always had all seasons, I stick with them throughout the winter and drive especially careful (i.e., slow) when it's slick on the ground from snow or ice. But when my OE run-flats lose their tread, I'll probably get new rims and use the 156s as my winter set.

I bought a set of winter tires for my E90 last winter, put em on right before a predicted "big snowstorm" 2 weeks and it never snowed..I took them shits off and the next few days it fuckin snowed like hell..I never put them back on since and i'm gonna get rid of them(*hint snow tires/rims 4 sale!)....As it sits now the E90 is a weekend/chillin' wit chicks car and when it snows I only drive my Civic or when it REALLY snows i take out the Quad...

I am actuallu in the same situation as you about getting winter tires. I am ordering winder tires for my 18's. I have my 162's sitting around so I am going to through a set of winters on. Unlike having to go to school I have work. That shit is never closed.

I actually didn't order mine yet I am having pricing done on a couple of different ones. The companies are. Pirelli, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Hankook. Tell ya the truth the ones that come back as the cheapest is the one I am buying. Anything is better than summer tires. I tried once driving with summer tires in the snow with my old acura tl, which was front wheel drive and I slid one down a slight hill almost 1/4 mile. So now I am willing to put winters on so I can actually drive to the store.

I would stay with 225. With snow the small the wheel the better the traction. I was actually looking at the same tires but i am going to do a complete stock replacement. 225 front and 255 rear.

I am new to bimmers. In the past I never thought of changing to winter tires. When you buy winter tires online where should you go if you want someone to install them or should you just buy them from a store?

I'm in the same boat as you Mark. I have the Eagle F1's on now and I'm looking to buy either the blizzak's or putting the stock all seasons back on for the winter. I really don't want to put the stocks back on because I hated the runflats. I changed them for two reasons
1) I got two flats and had to replace them 2) Eagle F1s were suppose to be a much better tire and a good replacement for the summer. Since this is a lease do I have to return the car with the stock tires? I think I do but just wanted to confirm. |

Snow tires are a must if you want to navigate in winter time. If you have an xi, you can get away with all-seasons. I would never run a summer tire in the snow; they are hard as rocks in freezing temps and have no traction whatsoever. I made the mistake of driving one of my previous bimmers with summer tires in a small amount of snow, it was borderline suicidal.
