Very nice feeling carrying steady spees above 130mph in Germany today.
Car gets a very light steering feel at these speeds but still an incredibly predictable behavior.

Wind noise becomes very loud and buffers engine sound.

Jealous. I rented a 530d (n57) for the day which was fun but a bit heavy and underwhelming. Would love to have my baby there

Be careful though. I got a photo ticket for 350 euro bc i didn't slow down enough coming into a speed zone.

You are absolutely right. Many speed zones. And high speed requires undivided attention while driving. Very different to US driving rules.

Having lived in Germany for five years back in the early 70s when more of the autobahn was unlimited but many slower vehicles and trucks shared the roads, driving fast was wonderful but mentally exhausting. As you said, perfect focus and attention was required. After a couple of hours of that you really need a break. Now imagine the F1 guys for a couple of hours.

you can hit 100 on a drag strip in the D pretty easily. Not for very long though. Couldnt you join a track day at a local track? Socal doesnt really have a shortage of tracks

Well I never tracked before but I was under the impression that bringing a set of track tires was highly recommended as they would wear out pretty quickly. If so, it would be a pricey proposition with me. I would be more inclined to go if I had an LSD too, something that's way on the bottom of my wish list due to the price and somewhat lack everyday practicality. What I need to do first is save up some money to attend an actual driving school!

You can satisfy your need for speed at a track without special tires or an LSD. But it is pricey for an inspection and the fee. I have only gone two days. First day with OEM RFTs I did see some outer tread scrubbing but not much. Second day with Michelin PSS and an LSD there was nothing obvious, and much more fun.

you definitely dont need track tires or an LSD, there are tons of people tracking cars that are less prepped than a stock 335d. So long as you dont do a bunch of track events you probably wont notice the impact to your tires, unless you go on a hot day and just melt the tires off (not recommended!)

mine did 145 the other day without trying and the bike does 170 easily, just coz some idiot thinks something far lower appropriate doesn't mean they are right

exactly....

there should be NO speed limits, they are just stupid.
Globally should be two offences of driving/riding with inappropriate speed

if we have a 30mph speed limit outside a school, this should not mean I can set cruise at 30 and fall asleep and mow down all the little kiddies as they run out of school at the end of the day. In this situation 20mph or even much lower with full concentration is appropriate. Like wise in the middle of summer holiday when no kid's been near the school for a month, its 05:30 on a sunday morning, you're the only vehicle for a mile, its full day light with dry warm conditions doing 55mph may be perfectly sensible...

the two offenses of inappropriate speed should be something like:

1) when being a bit silly and not thinking about what might happen, time for a lecture and 20 min delay, no points, no fine, roadworthiness check of vehicle, slapped wrists

2) being a dickhead and endangering life, arrest, impound car for 24 hrs, fine dependant upon circumstances (maybe 50% of weeks pay), 1 of 5 lives for the year taken off you, optional gang rape in prison depending on age / stupidity / arguing with the plod etc.

of course you'd need plod paid and motivated appropriately to get this to work, so that's never going to happen..... more speed cameras that'll make the world a better place coz they can work around the schools speed part ... Oh no they can't better put up another camera then !!!
