Ahhhh...now I get. I noticed that my 2.5 gallon jug of DEF that I bought today had two different caps. Am I to assume that this filler hose goes into the smaller one? |

Have you used the smaller jug others are suggesting you buy from VW/Audi? It has a spring-loaded nozzel (the blue tube in the photo below) that wont release the fluid until it is locked in and pressed firmly into the opening of the tank. So you have to have a firm hold of the jug and be pushing it firmly, you cant use it as a funnel even if you cut the base off. Just remove the top of the small jug, grind down or file down the locking nubs at the base of the neck of the bottle and you can refill it as much as you want and fill your tanks cleanly.

Thanks Quasimodem. I did that earlier tonight and it worked perfectly.
Taibanl, thanks for the offer. I took your advice, googled the order # and found two places that ship to Canada. |

Just noticed people were still posting! Yep that's exactly what I did. I bought 2, 1 for the car and the other for garage fill ups. I just used a my pocket knife to trace the security flanges backwards and slowly ground them down.
I live in BFE New Mexico, so when I travel I take one just in case. |

It may be getting harder to get the half-gallon bottles cheap. I stopped at the local VW dealer to buy one yesterday, and the guy asked me if I'd want to clean out their stock--2 new and one 3/4-full bottles--at cost, since they don't use them anymore. I asked what they use instead, and they said that now that they can get the 2.5 Gallon jugs, that's all they use, so they don't stock the little ones anymore.
Upside is it cost me $20 including tax for ~1.3 gallons and 3 bottles I can use for later fills. Downside is that's the last time I can do so. So those of you in IL, don't bother trying Fox Valley VW in Schaumburg, they're out and won't be restocking. I don't know if this translates to all other VW dealers, but it's something to watch out for. |
