It's hard to gauge the power delivery because the 535d is a heavier car and it has a different transmission, which is excellent in squeezing every ounce of power from the engine.

My car is tuned so it has a little more power using fewer gears at the same time.
535d has a few extra settings to sharpen the throttle response and gear changes which make it feel very quick.

My guess is that both being stock, no mods, the 535d would be faster.

The turbo lag is similar for both cars.

Good to know. That transmission must be making a big difference, and I usually like the 8 speed on the loaners I've had. On the flip side, I've come to appreciate the longer gearing in my 335d. Makes the car feel a lot smoother instead those small lurches every time I shift.

32.37 MPG for the past 500+ miles.
85 mph on the freeway, Lots of freeway driving this time compared to when I drove my car. Maybe 75-80% freeway miles. I got mixed feelings about fuel economy. I thought it would be better. My car would do that easily. I get 30 MPG driving probably 50/50 city/freeway.

the only thing that would pass for a replacement for my 335d is a m550d, but I would need to move to Europe for that!!!

Same here. I know I should be glad that my stealership is even giving me a courtesy loaner but come on. The 320i is a joke in the luxury sports sedan category IMHO.

If I wanted a diesel boat, I'd rather get a A8 TDI.

Interesting question, Hooper.

I had that car in my mind for a while.
320i is just not a BMW. It's horrible.

I would have liked for an A4 2.0 to be an option, there are a lot of them around and the prices arent bad. I looked into them to see if I could be happy picking one up and chipping it, but it just wasnt going to happen.

The dynamic for that car are so different than BMW, it would a huge difference between them. Underpowered (compared to 335d), nose heavy.
I would look into the S5 instead.
