Does USA do urea injection on diesel?? that's the ones that have real emission control on diesels.... in fact at lunch time today buying petrol I actually saw garage forecourt selling big bottles of urea top up. Never seen that before.

50ppm low sulphur diesel is what u need not 500ppm garbage

more to the point what about "swirl flaps" if u want to worry about breakdowns, these little buggers that do nothing worthwhile in the inlet manifold fall off past 90k miles and permanently take out the engine and the turbo's. Later non metal ones without the screws that fall out, (now made of plastic) still break and trash things....
In the USA it is mandatory on all roadgoing diesel vehicles that fuel be sold with no more than 15 ppm sulfur. The whole 500 ppm is what it used to be, but no longer so.

Yes, USA models have urea injection.

yes, just looking, good to see USA got this right ages ago

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-low-sulfur_diesel

swirl flaps if fitted are an issue in ANY bmw, old metal and newer plastic will still trash your car.... a few tell me not to worry till after 90k miles then expect doom at ANY point

seems odd so many USA cars struggle with build up, if any UK diesel with DPF spends all its time in built up areas and can't cruise at 2500 rpm (or so) for 20 mins about 20 miles at least once every 2 weeks expect problems with warning lights !!! but its only DPF clogged, not the engine

do you still drive at silly low speeds? ave UK user with one of these car will do about 85mph on a motoway for any journey. With plod and cameras out to spoil fun its dropped, 25 years back everyone who had someone else paying the fuel did 100mph

Yes all USA BMW diesels do urea injection. I am convinced when the 335d was introduced here in 2009, we were helping BMW debug the emissions system.

Swirl flaps do not seem to be an issue here. I heard with the latest design the flaps are large enough they will not pass into the intake and damage the engine if they fall off.

I have read that they redesigned the swirl flaps after the UK beta testers lost a bunch of engines to them. The US didnt get the engine until after the swirl flaps were redesigned. At least that is the word on the street.
