335d exhaust and trailer hitch?
Hi Guys, is it possible to get the factory swinging trailer hitch on a 335d touring - or does the backboxes take up so much space that there is not room for it?

Maybe call a dealer...or wait for the Euro folks to possibly chime in. In NA we get neither the wagon nor a factory hitch option. I would think there's room but cannot tell you for certain. Good luck!

Whitbread did something with the euro style hitch/ball thing. I don't recall if it is swinging style or not though. I suggest you go to the main E90 forum and search first. If not there, go to E90 bimmerfest. I know I read somewhere where a guy put the euro swinging hitch on a north American diesel E90. Not sure about if there was a fight for same space between the urea tanks and the mechanism though. good luck,

What is the safe limit for towing? I had a hitch on my VW Jetta TDI and towed a 1000 lb sailboat. I assume it will be fine to pull 1000 lbs with my 35d. Any reason not to? I.e. weak transmissions or something.

In Europe, the towbar takes the place of the rear cross-member behind the bumper.
"Westfalia" are the best ones to get IMHO - the factory used these prior to the drop-down ones. The aftermarket Westfalia is a removeable ball - 50mm, not 2 inch. Completely invisible as the socket is well up behind the bumper - the electrics hinge up/down so you can't see this. European tow limits for E9x is 1800 kgs, so you won't know a 500kg boat is behind you! Mike |

Not sure how long his trans will last him but 335dsleeper has been trailering his 335d behind his X5d for many miles. With trailer, that's > 4000 lb.

I have a Westfalia detachable on mine. As already mentioned, with it off you cant see it as the electrics plug pivots up and out of the way. I also have a dedicated wiring kit, so its silent when indicating (unlike some which beep), any bulb errors appear on the iDrive as a normal bulb would, and the reverse sensors are automatically disabled when reverse is selected and a trailer is plugged in.
I tow an EP3 Race Car (1000kgs) and 350kgs Trailer (limit in EU is 1800kgs on the E91 335d) and she still does 35mpg towing at 60-65mph |

Can you explain what you mean about the dedicated wiring kit please? I read through the link I found and this guy went through several perturbations of wiring before being satisfied. He did also comment about the OEM "brain" telling him of errors and problems on the cluster and he liked this. I would love the wiring kit's part number if you can provide I please? thanks in advance. |
